2016 Jadin Wong Dance Award Fellow Announced

Jesse Obremski, a Juilliard graduate, has been selected the 2016 Jadin Wong Dance Fellow in Dance. This is the third year the Asian American Arts Alliance has administered this award on behalf of the New York Community Trust. The fellowship goes to an Asian American dancer/choreographer who is age 30 or under and is based in New York City. Mr. Obremski was selected in an open application process by a high-level review panel.

Dancers Responding to AIDS Offers Fire Island Dance Festival Day-Trip VIP Package

BWW Interview: Choreographer Al Blackstone Talks FREDDIE FALLS IN LOVE for the Fire Island Dance Festival

Popular choreographer Al Blackstone, known for his Broadway style routines on So You Think You Can Dance, is excited to be returning for his third season at the Fire Island Dance Festival. Blackstone will be presenting an excerpt from his new work, Freddie Falls In Love, which recently had its premiere at The Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City. The show was also a benefit performance for DRA and Blackstone figured it would be a perfect fit for this year's festival.

Brian Brooks & Wendy Whelan Set for Fire Island Dance Festival

Acclaimed choreographer Brian Brooks and ballet world legend Wendy Whelan will perform a duet at this year's Fire Island Dance Festival(#fidance), one of the most talked about cultural and charitable events of the Fire Island summer. Set for July 15-17 in Fire Island Pines, NY, Fire Island Dance Festival is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

ADI to Perform Jack Ferver's I WANT YOU TO WANT ME at The Kitchen, 6/30-7/2

American Dance Institute (ADI), continuing to find new ways to support contemporary dance artists, is presenting performances in New York City for the first time this summer, offering five premieres over the course of five weeks at The Kitchen. The fifth of ADI's New York premieres at The Kitchen will be celebrated choreographer Jack Ferver's I Want You To Want Me, June 30 - July 02.

Harris Theater Names New Executive Vice President, External Affairs

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance has appointed Patricia Barretto as the new Executive Vice President, External Affairs effective immediately. After joining the Harris Theater executive team as Vice President of Marketing & Communications in 2015, Ms. Barretto's role will expand to oversee both the Marketing and Development departments.

LTAC Sets 2016-17 Season

Now in its sixth season, the Lone Tree Arts Center (LTAC) has established a reputation for presenting outstanding and engaging professional performances for audiences reaching far beyond its south metro Denver location. 60,000 people a year attend performances at the Arts Center, with ticket sales topping $1 million annually. Brian Brooks Set for Residency at Chicago's Harris Theater

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance has appointed choreographer Brian Brooks its first ever Choreographer in Residence. This Residency provides $600,000 over three years that will fund choreographer compensation, commissioning, and production support. The new Residency will provide encouragement and allow choreographers to focus on creating one-to-three new works each season without the constraints of financial pressures, while providing financial support to mount and produce the new works set upon regional, national, and international dance companies.

Theatre for a New Audience Extends PERICLES, Starring Christian Camargo

Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience Founding Artistic Director, has just announced an extension of PERICLES through Sunday, April 10 at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place, due to wide acclaim and box office demand. Theatre9/12 to Present WAITING FOR LEFTY

The actors of Theatre9/12 present one of the most important plays of the 20th century: Clifford Odets' Waiting for Lefty first presented by the famous Group Theatre.  Set in the Great Depression and addressing the exploitation of the working classes, the play centers around the 1934 Taxi strike in New York City.

Rehearsals recently began for Theatre for a New Audience's production of William Shakespeare's PERICLES directed by Trevor Nunn, featuring OBIE Award-winner Christian Camargo in the title role and leading a diverse company of 22 actors. PERICLES begins previews February 14 for an opening February 25. It is scheduled to run through March 27. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the company in rehearsal below!
