BWW Review: Alhambra Dinner Theatre presents ANNIE
by Heather Vollman - Jul 5, 2017

ANNIE opened at The Alhambra Dinner Theatre last week to a house full of excited young ladies, local theatre lovers, and even those who aren't as familiar with the Jacksonville theatre scene, as the timelessly successful musical tends to draw large crowds who know every song from childhood. With iconic characters, familiar scenery, and a Tony Award winning score, a fellow directing friend from my past once said, "It's really hard to mess this one up," and I tend to agree. There are several elements of this production that left me disappointed, however, the overarching themes and values, along with several outstanding performances, are endearing and inspiring.

by A.A. Cristi - Mar 20, 2017

New Tampa Players is bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to their home stage at the University Area CDC March 31 through April 2 and April 7 through April 9, but first they have been taking the show on the road. Earlier this month, the cast performed a musical revue for the resident families at Metropolitan Ministries. 'Rehearsals for Superstar have been demanding, so I wasn't sure how the cast would feel about giving up a Saturday,' Director G. Frank Meekins said, 'but in the end it was a privilege to be able to share musical theater with adults and children who might not otherwise get to see a live performance like this.'

BWW Review: Molly Pope Meets Classic Hollywood in the Energetic and Captivating A STAR IS BORN at Feinstein's/54 Below
by Ashley Steves - Jan 12, 2017

Starting in the back of the packed Feinstein's/54 Below house with 'It's a New World' (Harold Arlen/Ira Gershwin), Molly Pope has your attention. The band has played the overture; now it is her turn, crooning in silence. As suddenly as the first number ends, you're launched into the energetic 'Gotta Have Me Go with You,' Pope working her way through the crowd to the stage to join Brian Beach and Danny Bevins, her pair of enthusiastic backup dancers for the evening and the final pieces of her very complete transformation into Vicki Lester.

BWW Reviews: Worth Its Weight in Golden Plates - THE BOOK OF MORMON
by Amanda Finn - Mar 12, 2015

The musical that has had theatregoers buzzing since its premiere, The Book of Mormon, has finally made its way to Madison. It's a show so full of lewd behavior that one would almost have to assume it was written by the men behind the series South Park. That shock value - however - is what makes this show so unbelievably fun.
