BWW Review: Blank Canvas Challenges Audience Sensibilities with SILENCE! THE MUSICAL
by Roy Berko - Oct 24, 2016

Pat Ciamacco, the curmudgeon of glee and horror, is at it again. While it seems almost by chance, the artistic director of Blank Canvas selects the likes of OUR TOWN, TWELVE ANGRY MEN and OF MICE AND MEN. But most often Ciamacco digs up such scripts as THE WILD PARTY (a play about decadence and uninhibited sexual behavior), REEFER MADNESS (the 'truth' about using marijuana), BAT BOY THE MUSICAL (the tale of a large-eyed fanged human child), TRIASSIC PARQ THE MUSICAL (a songfest 65-million years in the making), DEBBIE DOES DALLAS (a stage version of the 1978 pornographic film), and TEXAS CHAINSAW MUSICAL (the story of a handsome serial killer and his overly affectionate momma, staged complete with a 'blood zone,' where members of the audience chose, if they desired, to be bathed in fake blood!)

BWW Review: Lakeland Civic Theatre Journeys INTO THE WOODS for Wishes, Choices and Consequences
by Roy Berko - Feb 8, 2016

Most fairy tales start with 'Once upon a time,' and end with 'And they lived happily ever after.' Ever wonder if 'happily ever after' is really true?

BWW Review: Farcical BAT BOY THE MUSICAL is a Blood-Sucking 'Hoot' at Blank Canvas
by Roy Berko - Oct 22, 2015

In June 23, 1992, if you believed the supermarket tabloid, 'Weekly World News,' you'd have accepted that a 'large-eyed, fanged human child' was found in a southern West Virginia cave.

BWW Reviews: SPAMALOT - Silly Fun at Beck
by Roy Berko - Jul 15, 2013

You know you aren't in for the typical Broadway musical, when, at the start of SPAMALOT, now on stage at Beck Center, a historian gives a brief overview of medieval England and a Finnish village appears with dancers slapping each other with dead fish as they perform the 'Fisch Schlapping Song.' That opening, complete with women knocking down their male partners, is just the start of the bizarre goings on.
