The 2012 fall season will include the Sarasota Youth Opera world premiere of LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND. The 2013 Winter Festival will feature three Sarasota Opera premieres: Puccini's TURANDOT; Verdi's A KING FOR A DAY (Un giorno di regno); and Carlisle Floyd's OF MICE AND MEN.
Tulsa Opera brings a powerful tale of love and sacrifice to the stage with a company premiere of Bellini's bel canto masterpiece, Norma. The production is being created exclusively for the Tulsa Opera stage by Stanley M. Garner, a popular American stage director and an Oklahoma native.
The Lyric Opera of Kansas City continues its 53rd season after a record-breaking run of Carmen with the Company debut of Norma. Norma is the quintessential bel canto opera showcasing brilliant vocal singing and is the first Bellini opera ever produced by the Company. The production features a renowned cast of singers and The Kansas City Symphony conducted by Lyric Opera Artistic Director Ward Holmquist. Norma opens on Novembers 6, 2010 in celebration of National Opera Week October 29 - November 7, 2010. This will be the Company's final season in the Lyric Theatre. Beginning in the fall of 2011, the Lyric Opera will perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Gotham Chamber Opera, Music-Theatre Group and the Opera Company of Philadelphia announced the commission of a new American opera, DARK SISTERS, composed by Nico Muhly with libretto by Stephen Karam, conducted by Neal Goren, and directed by Rebecca Taichman at The Chelsea Art Museum on Thursday, October 28. The three organizations have co-commissioned and will co-produce the opera, which will have its World Premiere in November 2011 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College, 899 Tenth Avenue, NYC, one of the first works to be presented at the Theater following the creation of a new lobby at the space. The cast will be headed by Caitlin Lynch and Kevin Burdette, with Kristina Bachrach, Jennifer Check, Eve Gigliotti, Brenda Harris, and Jennifer Zetlan. Dark Sisters will also be presented in June 2012 as part of the Opera Company of Philadelphia's chamber opera series at the Perelman Theater.

With the much anticipated move by the Lyric Opera of Kansas City to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in the fall of 2011, the 53rd Lyric Opera season will be the final one produced by the Company in the Lyric Theatre on 11th and Central streets in Kansas City, Missouri. With attendance and artistic quality at all-time highs, the Lyric Opera is already prepared for the move to the Kauffman Center in the fall of 2011.
