Today we continue a special spotlight series highlighting the spectacular entertainment set to be presented this coming Monday, June 16, at Joe's Pub, THE LORD & THE MASTER: BROADWAYWORLD.COM SINGS THE MUSIC OF ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER & STEPHEN SONDHEIM with a tribute to INTO THE WOODS.
The film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical JERSEY BOYS will hit theaters on June 20th. Directed by Clint Eastwood, JERSEY BOYS, written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, features the music and lyrics of Bob Gaudio & Bob Crewe. Just yesterday, the Angelo Galasso House at The Plaza (768 Fifth Avenue) hosted a special New York City screening of the new film, and BroadwayWorld was there for the big event. Second Stage Theatre will continue its 35th Anniversary Season by offering its popular $19.79 retro prices (the year in which the Company was founded) for the first week of previews of its upcoming production, Laura Eason's SEX WITH STRANGERS, directed by David Schwimmer and starring Anna Gunn and Billy Magnussen. 35 tickets will be available for all performances July 8th - 13th at this special price and will go on sale June 11 at 12:00pm. Tony Award-nominee Antonio R. Marion (Big Fish, Evita, Ghost) will host a new web-series with Hollywood style expert Erin McSherry (Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 50 Cent, Sofia Vergara), along with Tony Award-winning theater veteran Nick Demos (Memphis). The Broadway Fashion Report will cover the red carpet looks of the 2014 Tony Awards, as well as opening nights of the upcoming 2014-15 Broadway season. Julie Pacino, Poverty Row Entertainment, Rian Patrick Durham and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, by special arrangement with The Cherry Lane Theatre, just announced that Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Julia Stiles ("Dexter") will return to the New York stage opposite James Wirt in a fresh take on Scott Organ's play PHOENIX. Directed by Jennifer DeLia, PHOENIX begins performances at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) Monday, July 28, and opens Thursday, August 7. PHOENIX will play a limited engagement through Saturday, August 23. The design team for PHOENIX will be announced shortly.

The 2014 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out last night at NYU Skirball Center, hosted by acclaimed husband and wife actors and comedians, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman. This year's event once again benefited The Actors Fund.
As BroadwayWorld reported yeaterday, Tony Award-nominated director Nicholas Martin passed away on April 30th at the age of seventy-five. Most recently, Martin directed the critically acclaimedChristopher Durang play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which opened on Broadway last March. For this production, Martin was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Director and an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Director. Martin also directed the Off-Broadway production of the play in 2012. BroadwayWorld remembers the legendary director below.
