New York Live Arts (Live Arts) to present the world premiere of Kaneza Schaal's installation The Cotillion with the remount ofJACK &, April 17-20 & 24-27, 2019, having commissioned the works as part of the Live Feed Residency Program. JACK & returns to NYC after its sold out run in BAM's Next Wave Festival. 

The Brotherhood/Sister Sol (Bro/Sis) -- Harlem's nationally acclaimed social justice, youth development, and education organization -- will honor legendary dance choreographer Bill T. Jones, civil rights litigator Debo Adegbile, and TV producer and Black Girls Rock! founder Beverly Bond at its 15th Annual VOICES Gala in New York City on May 21 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, it announced today. The annual charity gala, which raises critical funds for Bro/Sis' life-changing education programs and support services, will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist and ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts.

The Center for the Arts at George Mason University announced today the 2019/2020 season of Great Performances at Mason, its annual series featuring leading national and international artists in the disciplines of classical music, opera, jazz, ballet, modern dance, theater, and global music and dance. The Center also announced the return of the Family Series, offering its second season of affordable programming for young audiences.

How sad it was that the same night that I attended the opening of the Juilliard School's Spring Dances 2019, Lawrence Rhodes, the previous director of Juilliard's Dance Division, former head of NYU's Tisch School of Dance, and a damned good dancer himself, passed away. What does one say? It's sad, but knowing the Division is now in the hands of the excellent Alicia Graf Mack and that the performance was of such high caliber-we should all be grateful for the work he did and the legacy he's passed on.

The second section of Bill T. Jones' Analogy/Trilogy, Lance: aka Pretty the Escape Artist, uses sound design, collage, projection, samples, a score by Nick Hallett, and quotations from Jones' conversations with his nephew Lance T. Briggs along with Jones' choreography to abstract Briggs' biography into this engrossing theatre piece. Jones shares choreography credits with his original cast. The strength of the dancers and the dancing surpasses every other element. The nine performers create scenes and episodes from Briggs' life: his audition for the San Francisco ballet as an 8 year old boy; his various cabarets and drag performances in New York and across Europe; his performance as a 'working girl' in The Castro.

'Dora: Tramontane' may be the first of a trilogy, but it has the power to stand on its own as well as part of a set. The work is breathtaking and emotional, and - like any good piece of art - stays with you long after the final bows. If the rest of the 'Analogy Trilogy' is even half as good, it's well worth getting to the Kennedy Center this weekend.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the dance-theater world, in their State Theatre debut on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 8pm. After the performance, there will be a post-show talkback with Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong, Composer Nick Hallett, and the performers of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company. Tickets range from $19-$49.

JACK & is a theatrical performance considering reentry into society after prison, featuring actor Cornell Alston with text and design from artist Christopher Myers. The Cotillion, a companion piece to JACK &, is a multi-channel audio and video installation in Live Arts lobby, and a post-show on-stage experience exploring ceremonial entrances into society, such as debutante balls and rituals that welcome ancestors back into communities.

New York Live Arts 2019 Live Ideas Gala, co-chaired by Matthew Putman, Slobodan Randjelovi and Jon Stryker, and hosted by award-winning director and photographer and noted social activist Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, pays tribute to Live Arts' annual Live Ideas Festival. The Gala will take place at the Caldwell Factory, 547 W 26th St, New York City on Monday, March 25th starting with a cocktail reception followed by a dinner catered by BITE and performances.

Germaul Barnes, a New York-based contemporary dance artist with a global approach to movement, will premiere his first work created for Alabama Ballet as part of the Ovation series, April 26-28.
