Fun Home, the Award-winning new musical that began previews on Broadway on March 27, announced today that the updated and expanded Broadway version of the cast recording has reached #1 on the Billboard Cast Album Chart. The album, produced by PS Classics, now features Emily Skeggs, who took over the role of Medium Alison during the show's original Off-Broadway run and is re-creating the role on Broadway, and includes new material written for the Broadway production, as well as additional material not included on the original recording. With music by five-time Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori, a book and lyrics by three-time Tony Award nominee Lisa Kron and direction by Tony Award nominee Sam Gold, Fun Home began previews March 27, 2015 and opened to rave reviews at the Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th Street) on Sunday, April 19, 2015.

The play Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind, which was written in Germany in the late 19th century was censored for a time due to its frank portrayal of masturbation, abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Exposing the rocky sexual coming of age of a group of teenagers, its helter-skelter but life-affirming journey is again explored in the 2006 Tony Award winning musical of the same name Spring Awakening through folk based and alternative rock, and boasts some expertly staged storytelling, singing, choreography and exuberant performances at the Wallis Annenberg through June 7 only. This is a brief return of Deaf West's critically-acclaimed production from last fall 2014 directed by Michael Arden.
Producers Fox Theatricals (Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson) and Barbara Whitman are pleased to announce that tickets for Fun Home, the Award-winning American musical based on Alison Bechdel's graphic novel of the same name, are now on sale through January 3, 2016.
A sexy cast of beautiful people inhabits Green Day's punk rock opera American Idiot, in a ferocious glory|struck production that opened last weekend at The Vortex. Directors Topher Rhys and Jen Oundjian (who also choreographs) take full advantage of the concert venue space and go for a panoramic experience, moving the action offstage whenever possible. The concept enhances the surround sound feel of the show and if you approach it from a concert mindset it will be easy to go with the flow. In a way, by chopping up the visual space to include playing areas all around the space, it enhances the disconnectedness we see in the characters. Plus, there is a certain kind of bond an audience feels with an actor when he is dripping with sweat and singing his guts out right next to you.
In the 12-time Tony nominated musical Fun Home, a college-age Allison, played onstage by Emily Skeggs, sings 'Changing My Major'- a song about her new romance with 'Joan.' Based on the graphic memoir of the same name by Allison Bechdel, the musical is based on her youth, and 'Joan' indeed was a real part of her time at Oberlin College.
Producers Fox Theatricals (Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson) and Barbara Whitman have announced that the coast-to-coast North American Tour of Fun Home, the twelve-time Tony Award nominated American musical based on Alison Bechdel's graphic novel of the same name, will begin in the 2016 - 2017 Season.
