The Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition continues to spotlight the best emerging playwrights with a full production for the competition winner and staged readings for four competition finalists.  Too Heavy for your Pocket, the 13th competition winner, will have its world premiere on the Hertz Stage February 4 - 26, 2017.  Opening night is Thursday, February 9, 2017. 

The Drama League has announced the 11 stage directors who have been selected as the 2016 Directing Fellows of The Drama League Directors Project: Noa Egozi, Drew Feldman, Sara Holdren, Candis Jones, Yavor Kostov, Katie Lupica, James Palmer, Jesca Prudencio, Ilana Ransom Toeplitz, Chloe Treat, Shaun Patrick Tubbs. Atlanta's nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre and Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth have announced the 2016/17 Season for the Alliance Stage, Hertz Stage, Theatre for Youth and Families, and the Kathy and Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young series. The 48th season includes seven world premieres, five musicals, five productions by Atlanta playwrights, and exceptional productions for youth and families. The 2016/17 season marks the Alliance's last in its current theater space before it undergoes a complete renovation, its first since it was built in 1968.

The fat, fun-loving character of Falstaff is considered by many to be one of Shakespeare's greatest inventions. Perhaps the biggest fan was Queen Elizabeth, who insisted that Shakespeare write a play that featured Falstaff after he killed him off in Henry V; THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR is the result of that request. The reading will take place today, March 24, 2013.

Beginning February 19, the Festival will present a diverse collection of nine plays selected from the more than one hundred scripts submitted. The Festival will again be held at San Francisco's Eureka Theatre and will feature two distinct programs. For the third week of the Festival (March 4-8) both programs will be staged in rep-a challenge for actors and production crews and a great opportunity for theatre-goers to see all nine plays in one week! Special low-priced Festival Passes are available for these marathon patrons.
