Soprano Lisette Oropesa Wins The Met's 2019 Beverly Sills Artist Award

The Metropolitan Opera has named soprano Lisette Oropesa as the winner of the 14th annual Beverly Sills Artist Award. The $50,000 award is given to extraordinarily gifted singers with rising Met careers. Given in honor of the legendary American soprano Beverly Sills, the award was established in 2006 by an endowment gift from the late Agnes Varis, a managing director on the Met's Board of Directors.

North/South Presents A Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Utah Opera Presents A Semi-Staged Concert Version Of Bellini's NORMA

Utah Opera presents a night of thrilling music and dramatic narrative with Vincenzo Bellini's "Norma," in a semi-staged production at Abravanel Hall on May 4 at 7:30 PM and May 6 at 7 PM. This new production of "Norma,", created by Utah Opera's Costume Shop and Scenic Studios, will feature costumes designed by Season 12 "Project Runway" finalist Bradon McDonald, and projected images and video designed by Greg Emetaz. Crystal Manich will direct the production, and Stephen Lord will conduct the Utah Symphony. Due to renovations of the historic Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre, Utah Opera's performances of "Norma" will take place in Abravanel Hall." Tickets priced $29-108 ($15 for students) are available for purchase through utahopera.org or by calling (801) 533-6683.

Boston Court Pasadena's 2019 Emerging Artists Series

Boston Court Pasadena continues its mission of fostering new musical talent with the 3rd Annual Emerging Artists Series, May 30 June 9, 2019. The series will feature up-and-coming pianists, as well as vocalists who have been through a rigorous mentoring curriculum with some of Los Angeles' most prominent musicians and coaches including Mark Robson, Gloria Cheng, Lisa Sylvester, Vicki Ray, Brent McMunn and Paul Floyd.

Producer Don Hahn To Be Honored By LA Children's Chorus at Gala Bel Canto

Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), one of the nation's leading youth choral institutions, honors Don Hahn, the acclaimed Academy Award-nominatedproducer of such blockbuster Disney films as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Maleficent, and philanthropists Jennifer and Joe Sliskovich at Gala Bel Canto on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 5:30 pm, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The celebration features musical tributes by some 200 young singers from five LACC ensembles led by Artistic Director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, a three-course dinner and a live auction. Proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit Los Angeles Children's Chorus' outstanding artistic, educational and scholarship programs.

Boston Baroque Presents Monteverdi's L'incoronazione Di Poppea Featuring Soprano Amanda Forsythe

Boston Baroque presents Monteverdi's final opera, L'incoronazione di Poppea, on Friday, April 26th at 7:30pm and on Sunday, April 28th at 3pm at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. These will be the first performances of a new performing edition of the opera by Boston Baroque founder and Music Director Martin Pearlman. The all-star cast includes soprano Amanda Forsythe in the title role and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo making his Boston Baroque debut as Nero.

North Carolina Opera Announces 2019-20 Season

North Carolina Opera has announced the company's 2019-20 season, which includes fully-staged productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute (Apr. 3 & 5, 2020) and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci (Jan. 24 & 26, 2020), a concert performance of Act III from Wagner's Siegfried (Nov. 10, 2019), and a vocal recital by superstar tenor Lawrence Brownlee (Feb. 18, 2020). The announcement was made by the company's General Director Eric Mitchko at the 2019-20 Season Reveal, which was held on Tuesday, March 26 at CAM Raleigh and graciously sponsored by the Meredith College Department of Music, CITRIX, Mitchell's, Queen of Wines, Savills, Glenwood Agency Real Estate, and Hibernian Pub.
