BWW Reviews: A Million Reasons to Love MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at The McCallum Theatre
by David Green
- Nov 28, 2013
The McCallum Theatre has given the Coachella Valley another reason to be thankful this holiday weekend by presenting the stellar national tour of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET through December 1. As anyone who has read my previous reviews knows, I am a big fan of Mitch Gershenfeld and The McCallum Theatre for its ever-marvelous slate of offerings to the desert theatre-going community, and this production is no exception. I wish I had a million superlatives to equal the high caliber production that opened last evening for a "too-limited engagement".

The recording session of Carl Perkins and Jerry Le Lewis soon turned into an impromptu jam session when Johnny Cash and breakout star Elvis Presley showed up too. This was to be the first and the last time all four men were in the same room together and goes down in history as one of the greatest spontaneous rock and roll collaborations of all time

The national tour of the Tony Award winning MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, running now through October 6 at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center, brings that legendary night to life, featuring a score of rock hits including 'Blue Suede Shoes,' 'Fever,' 'That's All Right,' 'Sixteen Tons,' 'Great Balls of Fire,' 'Walk the Line,' 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On,' 'Who Do You Love?,' 'Matchbox,' 'Folsom Prison Blues,' 'Hound Dog' and more.
