Fresh off a successful run of Ain't Too Proud at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Jahi Kearse returns to B Street to play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the original production Martin Luther King Jr. & The Sound of Freedom as the first play of the 2019 Family Series. Kearse plays Motown founder and record executive Berry Gordy in Ain't Too Proud, a hit new musical about the life and times of The Temptations. Immediately following Sound of Freedom Kearse will join his Ain't Too Proud castmates in New York City for a Broadway run of the musical at the Imperial Theatre, reprising his role as Gordy.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will begin previews for the MOBILE UNIT's production of Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM on Sunday, October 28. Directed by Jenny Koons, the free sit-down run of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM follows a three-week tour to five boroughs bringing Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM will run through Saturday, November 17 with an official press opening on Friday, November 2.

National New Play Network, an alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, is pleased to announce the 17th annual National Showcase of New Plays . NNPN and B Street Theatre will host the National Showcase of New Plays from December 7-9, presenting readings of six production-ready new plays to more than 150 NNPN Core and Associate Members, Affiliated Artists, independent theater-makers, and invited guests.

Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is proud to announce that Rastus and Hattie, a new play written by Lisa Langford, Cleveland Public Theatre's 2018/2019 Nord Family Foundation Playwright Fellow and longtime CPT artist, was selected alongside 5 new plays to be read at NNPN's 17th annual National Showcase of New Plays this December in Sacramento, California.

Ironbound made its premiere at the New Works Festival at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. It was produced later at the Round House Theatre in Bethesda, Maryland and made its Off-Broadway debut at the Rattlestick Playwright's Theatre.

The Kennedy Center will host more than 60 theater-makers from July 28-August 5, 2018 as part of the 13th annual week-long MFA Playwrights' Workshop featuring new works by graduate students or recent MFA graduates from Iowa Playwrights' Workshop, Northwestern University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of California, San Diego.
