BWW Interviews: Matt Shingledecker Talks his Role as Fiyero in WICKED

Matt Shingledecker has been performing most of his life and loving every minute of it. From the time he got his first paying show at age 16, Matt has been hooked. Matt is currently playing Fiyero in the touring company of Wicked and has been loving every minute of it. Broadway World caught up with Matt not too long ago and he shared his feelings about his new role as Fiyero and what led up to this moment.

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT THE MUSICAL, or the ultimate party bus, is headed towards Houston. With our ears to the ground we can hear the faint pulse of the poppy disco beats filling Denver audiences with joy. Soon the splashy, feel good musical will be mirthfully leaving Houston audiences dancing in the aisles. Last week, while the bus was stopped in San Francisco I chatted with Gillian Austin, the shows' Wardrobe Supervisor, about the amazingly audacious, memorable, and vastly impressive and Tony Award winning costumes, which were designed by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner who also won an Oscar for their costumes design for the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Black Opal announced Triveni Ravi as the winner of its 2013 True Beauty Model Search. Chosen from over 400 applicants and 3 finalists, 19-year-old Ravi is a nursing student from Los Angeles, California. Selected by a prestigious panel of judges from the beauty and entertainment fields; all applicants were evaluated based on essays, community service involvement, educational aspiration and a photo of themselves representing Black Opal's True Beauty. The panel of judges included such luminaries from the beauty and entertainment worlds: singer/songwriter and VH1's Love & Hip Hop cast member and R&B singer Olivia; Celebrity Make-up artist Frank Guyton; Noted and board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Cheryl Burgess; Celebrity Hairstylist Eric Bland; Style Network's Chicagolicious cast member Valencia; and Celebrity Fashion Stylist Andre Austin.

It's the timeless quality of the tale that have inspired director Bernard Uzan to set his production of Faust, first produced at Arizona Opera in 2011 and now re-staged for Austin Lyric Opera, in modern times. Unfortunately, despite the impeccable performances of the incredible cast, the tone and visuals of the production distract from Gounod's masterpiece rather than enhancing it.
