La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to bring back for a seventh year its acclaimed play development initiative, the DNA New Work Series, a weekend of readings of new works, taking place May 2 - 5, 2019 in the Playhouse's Rao and Padma Makeneni Play Development Center (PDC) and Seuss 1 rehearsal spaces.

The Secret Life of Bees begins performance on May 12 and opens on Thursday, June 13 at Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street). The production is an extended run through July 14, 2019

Atlantic Theater Company announces a one week extension for the world premiere production of The Secret Life of Bees, book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage, music by Tony and Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik, lyrics by Drama Desk winner Susan Birkenhead, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, and based on the best-selling novel by Sue Monk Kidd. The highly anticipated production, which opens on Thursday, June 13th, will now play through Sunday, July 14th, 2019 Off-Broadway at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).

NY Madness is excited to announce it's April 2019 line-up as a Madness Co-Produced by Elephant Run District! The event will take place on Sunday, April 28th at 8pm at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). The lineup will include:

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Producer Diane Borger, announces the cast and creative team for the world premiere of We Live in Cairo written by brothers Daniel Lazour and Patrick Lazour. Now in rehearsal under the direction of Obie Award winner Taibi Magar, We Live in Cairo begins previews Tuesday, May 14; opens Wednesday, May 22; and closes Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, MA.

Atlantic Theater Company announces casting for the New York premiere production of Nomad Motel, written by Carla Ching (Fast Company, Atlantic/Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation commissionee) and directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar (The Mysteries).

The Lark has announced its BareBones program will return this season with a workshop production of On Every Link a Heart Does Dangle; or Owed by Tim J. Lord, directed by Meredith McDonough. The play, a radical reimagining of the Oedipus myth, will run at The Lark's BareBones Studio from May 10-19, 2019, at 311 West 43rd Street, 5th Floor, in New York City.

Danny Johnson (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Gotham) and Pat Bowie (A Trip to Bountiful) will lead two industry readings of Douglas Lyons's new family comedy Chicken and Biscuits. Directed by Zhailon Levingston (Neptune), the full cast includes, Gayle Turner (The Wiz) , Inga Ballard (Ragtime Tour), Akira Golz (Matilda), Jed Resnick (Avenue Q), Josh Adam Ramos, and Alana Raquel Bowers (What to Send Up, When it Goes Down), with music by Nygel D. Robinson.

Bye, bye Bet Hatikva! As BroadwayWorld reported in February, the 10-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical The Band's Visit will play its final performance on Broadway tonight, April 7, 2019. Upon closing, the production will have played 589 regular and 36 preview performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre (243 W 47th Street).
