THE SORCERERS to Run 3/3-20 at TNC

?Belgian playwright Serge Goriely turns conventional notions of voodoo on their heads with his Strindbergian play of magic, lies and intolerance, 'The Sorcerers.'  Theater for the New City will present the work's world premiere March 3 to 20, translated and directed by David Willinger.

Drama, Costumes, Ballroom Dancing and More Set for TNC's Village Halloween Ball, 10/31

Nonstop theater, a costume competition and ballroom dancing will bewitch the East Village in Theater for the New City's 38th annual Village Halloween Costume Ball on Saturday, October 31 at TNC, 155 First Avenue. New Musical HEATHER SMILEY FOR PRESIDENT to Open Off-Broadway

Theater for the New City (Executive Director, Crystal Field) presents the world premiere of the musical comedy Heather Smiley for President, which will begin previews on Thursday, October 1st, at the Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue at 10th Street), with an opening set for Sunday, October 11th.    The musical has a book and lyrics by Tom Attea with music composed by Arthur Abrams. The production is directed by Mark Marcante and choreographed by Angela Harriell. Heather Smiley for President will play a limited engagement through October 25th. 'Casterbridge,' based on Thomas Hardy's classic Victorian novel, 'The Mayor of Casterbridge,' is a new musical theater work with book and lyrics by David Willinger and music by Christopher Beste. The 20-character, two-act musical is fairly faithful to Hardy's parable of the spiritual ups and downs of man and features a score inspired by English country music of the period. Theater for the New City will present the piece's world premiere run today, June 4 to 19, directed by Willinger.

'Great Kills' by Tom Diriwachter is a darkly comic tale of a get-rich-quick scheme in Staten Island that goes awry. Theater for the New City (TNC) will present the play's debut run tonight, March 26 to April 12, featuring Joe Pantoliano (who is noted for his starring roles on Broadway, film and TV), Robert Homeyer and Peter Welch. As American workers continue to be impacted by the dynamics of the global marketplace and downward pressure on their wages, Theater for the New City and its Executive Director Crystal Field will present AN AMERICAN WORKER, a world premiere play and lyrics by Tom Attea with music composed by Arthur Abrams. The musical drama spotlights the harsh realities of the families of steelworkers in a Pennsylvania town where the steel mill, which has been the principal employer for 75 years, announces its impending closure. The production is slated for an off-Broadway run December 26, 2014 - January 18, 2015, with the official opening on January 8, at Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue). The piece has its premiere run tonight, May 2 to 19, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM. The running time is 1:30. Critics are invited on or after May 4.
