Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) will close out its golden anniversary season this Saturday, June 29 with the final performance of 125th & FREEdom. . Created, written and choreographed by Ebony Noelle Golden, 125th & FREEdom is a five-hour, immersive public performance dance piece that is part dance party, part parade, part protest and ritual performance, and all Harlem. Exploring the question, "If Harriet Tubman were alive today, how would she free Black people?" the program transforms Harlem's iconic corridor into a stage with performances along 125th Street from the East River to the Hudson River. The piece, free and open to the public, premiered on June 8 and is the culmination of a 50th anniversary season for the trailblazing theatre which also saw productions including In Perpetual Flight: The Black Body in Migration, a special in-progress staged reading of the musical WiLDFLOWER by Jason Michael Webb and Lelund Durond Thompson, and The Mothers of the Movement: The Black Woman She Does Exist.

Broadway is currently celebrating the 50th year of Hello Dolly and the Folksbiene is mounting Fiddler On The Roof (in Yiddish) for its same Golden Anniversary. TheBerkshire Theatre Group has an exciting production of HAIR also celebrating its Broadway Opening in 1968 on it's Unicorn Stage. BroadwayWorld was there for the opening night curtain call. Tisch New Theatre will present HAIRSPRAY, the musical based on the 1988 film written and directed by John Waters, April 1-4 at the NYU Skirball Center. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman, and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, HAIRSPRAY the musical premiered on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she launches an ambitious campaign to integrate the show. HAIRSPRAY focuses on civil rights, the beauty of diversity and individuality, and acts as a beacon of hope and inclusiveness in the theatre world and beyond.
