AMADEUS Plays Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Now thru 11/11

One of the greatest composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was outrageous, brilliant, complicated and larger than life. Yet he found it impossible to have his talent recognized in the intrigue-ridden imperial Vienna. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre takes on the flamboyant genius in the first show of its 10th Anniversary season: the thrilling tour-de-force biodrama Amadeus.

The Old Globe Announces 2013 Season - Adrian Noble Directs MERCHANT OF VENICE, THE RAINMAKER and More

The Old Globe today announced its 2013 Summer Season. Adrian Noble will return for his fourth season as the Artistic Director of the Globe's Shakespeare Festival and direct Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice starring Festival veteran Miles Anderson. Noble will also direct Tom Stoppard's classic farce, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Presented in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, the Festival will also include the perennial favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Summer Season will also feature N. Richard Nash's romantic comedy The Rainmaker and the San Diego Premiere of Double Indemnity, based on the classic novel by James M. Cain and adapted for the stage by David Pichette and R. Hamilton Wright. The Rainmaker will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre and Double Indemnity in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Tickets to the Globe's 2013 Summer Season are currently available by subscription only, and prices range from $66 to $422. Handel and Haydn Society Releases Mozart Coronation Mass on CORO Today

Following the success of the Mozart Mass in C minor and Requiem releases, the Handel and Haydn Society is has announced its third live recording on the CORO label on September 11. Soloists Teresa Wakim, Paula Murrihy, Thomas Cooley, Sumner Thompson joined Harry and the Society to record Mozart's Coronation Mass live at Boston's Symphony Hall earlier this year.

F. Murray Abraham to Receive STC's Will Award

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) has selected Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham as the 2012 recipient of The William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre(Will Award). Abraham will be honored at the Harman Center for the Arts Annual Gala hosted by STC at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) on Monday, October 15, 2012. This year's Gala will be inspired by Shakespeare's great characters.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts Announces 2012-13 Season

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College announces its 58th season of music, dance, theater, and family programming reflecting the multicultural diversity of Brooklyn. The outstanding line-up features performances from Jamaica, Russia, China, and Canada, as well as the United States, and includes both Brooklyn premieres and returning favorites.

Based on a real-life event, the drama about two of history's most famous artists-and one of history's most infamous statesmen-is written by Michael Kramer with D. S. Moynihan. Directed by Michael Wilson, Divine Rivalry runs now through August 5 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Amadeus is a play by Peter Shaffer, which gives a highly fictionalized account of the lives of the composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. First performed in 1979,Amadeus was inspired by a short 1830 play by Alexander Pushkin called Mozart and Salieri (which was also used as the libretto for an opera of the same nameby Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakovin 1897). In the play, significant use is made of the music of Mozart, Salieri and other composers of the period. The premieres of Mozart's operas The Abduction from the Seraglio, The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and The Magic Flute are each the setting for key scenes of the play.
