J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of STAR WARS Star Wars with THE FORCE AWAKENS in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of STAR WARS: Episode IX.

STAR WARS EPISODE VIII director Rian Johnson turned to Facebook to announce that production has officially wrapped on the highly-anticipated film. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
