BWW Interview: Chatting with Newcomer Jenny Weisz from Toronto's ANNIE

It's an exciting holiday theatre season in Toronto, with lots of great options for children and grown ups alike! One option which is bound to appeal to people of all ages is the classic tale of ANNIE - being presented by Young People's Theatre and starring newcomer Jenny Weisz in the iconic role.
You would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't know the story of Annie (or it's timeless tunes such as 'Tomorrow', 'Hard Knock Life' and 'Maybe') but it's been a long time since Toronto had a professional production on stage in the city. In the iconic role is newcomer Jenny Weisz, and 'Annie' marks her very first professional gig after graduating from Theatre Sheridan this past year. BWW sat down to talk with her about playing the famous little redheaded girl, reaching her dream of performing with YPT and her musical theatre influence.

The task of wrapping up a musical involving Ugandan warlords, closeted Mormons, and amphibious fornication might prove to be rough for the average lyricist - but SOUTH PARK masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone have done it nicely with the THE BOOK OF MORMON's 11 o'clock performance of 'Tomorrow is a Latter Day,' and the infamous anthem 'I Believe.' As do KINKY BOOTS' flashy footwear-driven 'Raise You Up/Just Be,' proving everyone loves a good drag queen in six-inch heels, or PIPPIN's big reveal in 'Finale/Magic Shows and Miracles.'

'ANDREW JACKSON' Takes Home 10 Miss Annie Awards, Chattanooga Theatre Honors Volunteers

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre celebrated and honored volunteers both onstage and behind the scenes for the 2012-2013 season at the Miss Annie Awards held Saturday, August 17, at the CTC. Musicals took top billing at the awards, with the rock musical Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson taking 10 Miss Annie awards including Outstanding Musical production and Outstanding Stagedoor production. Legally Blonde received five Miss Annie awards and Cabaret was awarded four. Legally Blonde and Cabaret tied for Audience Favorite Spotlight production. The drama A Doll's House won six awards and was named Outstanding Spotlight Production.
