The Authors' Zone announces the 3rd Annual Writers Conference on September 10, 2016 from 8AM to 5PM at the Double Tree, 1 Bigelow Square in downtown Pittsburgh. The Authors' Zone writing event is an opportunity for writers and aspiring authors to receive intense instruction over the course of one day and to discuss manuscripts with editors, attend workshops and network with successful writers, editors and publishers.
Keynote speaker is Pittsburgh author Sharon G. Flake. With millions of books in print, Ms. Flake has earned an international reputation as one of the top children and young adult authors in the field. LILLIANA HAGERMAN and LAMIN PEREIA DOS SANTOS of the Kansas City Ballet will appear as guest artists with the Allen Civic Ballet and Allen Philharmonic at the Performing Arts Center at Allen High School in Allen, Texas on May 19, 2016. This will be a joint performance of the Allen Civic Ballet and the Allen Philharmonic featuring Ms. Hagerman and Mr. Pereia in Act II of Cinderella. Ms. Hagerman and Mr. Pereia will also be teaching master classes as part of this engagement.
SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of former Screen Actors Guild President Anna Patty Duke Pearce, better known as Patty Duke. Duke was elected president in 1985, becoming the second female president of the union. Duke was an Oscar and Emmy-winning actor, labor activist, and pioneering advocate for mental health issues. She was 69.
