Britta Johnson's LIFE AFTER Musical to Hit the Stage in Toronto This Fall

Following an auspicious debut at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2016, Canadian Stage, The Musical Stage Company, and Yonge Street Theatricals will present rising Toronto lyricist and composer Britta's Johnson's extraordinary new musical Life After, on stage at the Berkeley Street Theatre September 23 - October 22. This expanded fall production represents an exciting step for a developing Canadian musical.

Sheridan College's Canadian Music Theatre Project (CMTP), under the leadership of Michael Rubinoff, Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, is an international centre of excellence for the development of new musicals in Canada. Since its inception in 2011, 15 shows have been incubated, with four having enjoyed their professional premieres (Come From Away, The Theory of Relativity, Prom Queen and Marathon of Hope) and one opening on Broadway in 2017 (Come From Away). Young People's Theatre (YPT) has been overwhelmed by public response to the musical, Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, announcing today the run would be extended due to demand. Originally slated to run from November 16th to December 20th, the show will now run right through the holidays, to January 3rd. A signature production in YPT's history, this action-packed musical - the company's most-produced show and amongst its most beloved - will feature new music and lyrics by the talented young song-writing duo, Britta and Anika Johnson.

'Blood Ties', by cast members Anika Johnson and Barbara Johnston, seems to have had quite a journey pre-Fringe. Written when the two were at theatre school, the musical has since featured in various festivals and five years later, its fourth draft arrives in Edinburgh in what appears to be a final hurrah for the show.
