NAMT Awards $65,000 In Grants For New Musical Development & Organizational Innovation

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 18 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, and five awards granted from their Innovation & Exploration Grant program. The National Fund for New Musicals (NFNM) is a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its tenth year, this year the Fund is providing grants totaling $58,000 to organizations across the country.

As COME FROM AWAY Heads to Broadway Sheridan's Canadian Music Theatre Project Announces Three New Musicals

Sheridan College's Canadian Music Theatre Project (CMTP), under the leadership of Michael Rubinoff, Associate Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, is an international centre of excellence for the development of new musicals in Canada. Since its inception in 2011, 15 shows have been incubated, with four having enjoyed their professional premieres (Come From Away, The Theory of Relativity, Prom Queen and Marathon of Hope) and one opening on Broadway in 2017 (Come From Away). Young People's Theatre Extends JACOB TWO-TWO

Young People's Theatre (YPT) has been overwhelmed by public response to the musical, Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, announcing today the run would be extended due to demand. Originally slated to run from November 16th to December 20th, the show will now run right through the holidays, to January 3rd. A signature production in YPT's history, this action-packed musical - the company's most-produced show and amongst its most beloved - will feature new music and lyrics by the talented young song-writing duo, Britta and Anika Johnson.

Clyde Alves, Chilina Kennedy and More Set for BLAME CANADA! at 54 Below Next Week

Final casting has been announced for BLAME CANADA!, an evening featuring the best in Canadian musical theatre happening at 54 BELOW on Monday, June 15 at 9:30pm. Clyde Alves, who currently stars as Ozzie in the Broadway revival of On The Town, hosts the evening that celebrates work by members of the Canadian Musical Theatre Writers Collective (CMTWC).

'Blood Ties', by cast members Anika Johnson and Barbara Johnston, seems to have had quite a journey pre-Fringe. Written when the two were at theatre school, the musical has since featured in various festivals and five years later, its fourth draft arrives in Edinburgh in what appears to be a final hurrah for the show.
