To support the next generation of artists, Theatre Row is launching its most ambitious initiative yet: the Kitchen Sink Residency, designed to nurture smaller, emerging performing arts companies.
Theatre Row, the venerable five-theatre Off-Broadway complex at 410 West 42nd Street, has recently undergone an extensive six-month renovation as part of a larger re-imagining of Theatre Row's role in the non-profit theater community. The new Theatre Row was just unveiled with a dedication ceremony last night, June 17, featuring performances from resident companies Epic Theatre Ensemble and Keen Company.
The new St. Ann's Warehouse was unveiled in a ceremony this morning! The $31.6 million, 25,000 sf. theater, at the breathtaking site of the pre-Civil War Tobacco Warehouse under the Brooklyn Bridge, will make Brooklyn Bridge Park a home for culture for future generations.
This morning, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, St. Ann's Warehouse Founder and Artistic Director Susan Feldman, St. Ann's Warehouse Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson, St. Ann's Warehouse Board Chair Joseph S. Steinberg, Brooklyn Bridge Park President Regina Myer, NYC Council Member Stephen Levin, State Senator Daniel Squadron and others broke ground at the Tobacco Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The event signals the beginning of St. Ann's $27 million development of the historic building, originally constructed in 1861, into a 25,000 SF performing arts center and community hub on the Brooklyn waterfront. The Tobacco Warehouse will serve as a permanent home for St. Ann's, which has activated found spaces for cultural use in downtown Brooklyn since in 1980. The non-profit organization plans to present its opening season in the Brooklyn Bridge Park warehouse in Fall 2015.
The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that Sandra E. Davis has been named Director of Development. Davis is currently the Director of Leadership Gifts and Special Campaigns at the Metropolitan Opera and was previously the Director of Development at Seattle Opera.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW Jackson will begin performances on Broadway at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre (242 W. 45th Street) on September 20, 2010 and officially open on October 13, 2010. The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that Director of Special Projects Maria Goyanes will assume the position of Associate Producer, effective September 1, 2010. Goyanes has been on staff at The Public since 2004 and was instrumental in launching the theater's successful Public LAB series.
Roger Guenveur Smith's explosive new work JUAN AND JOHN, running December 1 to December 20 at The Public Theater, is inspired by the violent altercation between Juan Marichal and John Roseboro during a 1965 Giants-Dodgers game. The two became friends in later years.
The cast and creative team of the hit Broadway musical HAIR, including Tony Award nominee director Diane Paulus joined friends and fans for the release party launch of the Ghostlight Records New Broadway Cast Recording of HAIR. The celebration took place onTuesday, May 26, 2009 at Bumble and bumble which is located at 415 West 13th Street (between 9th Ave and Washington St.). Christopher Durang's comedy WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM opened at The Public Theater on Monday April 6. This world premiere, directed by Nicholas Martin, began previews March 24 and will run through April 26.
