Producer David Binder just announced that the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, which last month received four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, has recouped its initial capitalization investment as of the week ending Sunday, July 13.

Tony nominee Andrew Rannells will soon succeed Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. Rannells, who is contracted for an eight week run, will take on the title role beginning August 20, after Harris departs on August 17.
HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH was originally produced by David Binder off off Broadway at Westbeth and then, under the direction of Peter Askin, ran over two years at the Jane Street Theatre beginning in February 1998. The musical won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical and both John Cameron Mitchell andStephen Trask won Obies in 2001. It won a 1998 New York Magazine Award and Entertainment Weekly's 'Soundtrack of the Year' Award. Time Magazine named HEDWIG the Top Musical of 1998.

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Andrew Rannells will be taking over Neil Patrick Harris' role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on August 20. However, it wasn't until today that he finally had the time to talk about it. He told The Star, 'It's scary and exciting and every kind of wonderful imaginable.'

In a profile for The Boston Globe, mega-producer, theater-owner and all-around theatre impresario Cameron Mackintosh revealed he thinks Neil Patrick Harris would be 'perfect' to star in his reworked version of BARNUM, which is set to launch a UK tour this September (starring Brian Conley). That is, if Harris's 'schedule ever opens up'.

The Public Theater's free Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado About Nothing officially opened tlast night, Monday, June 16. The production will run through Sunday, July 6. Obie Award winner Hamish Linklater and Tony Award nominee Lily Rabe return to the Park as the wise-cracking, would-be lovers Beatrice and Benedick in the beloved romantic comedy. Central Park becomes sun-drenched Sicily at the turn of the last century, where the heat of summer ignites the fevered passions of lovesick ladies in corsets and pining gentlemen spying from the verandah. Three-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien directs this delightful skirmish of wit between two self-declared bachelors tricked by their mischief-making friends into falling in love against their will and in spite of their own hearts.
