The outdoor stage has been built, bleachers are being set and tents and concession stands will soon pop up in Royal Oak's Starr Jaycee Park as Water Works Theatre Company prepares for the 13th annual Shakespeare in the Park, August 1-11. Michigan's biggest and best outdoor professional theatre event will feature two weeks of theatrical fun in the heart of Royal Oak. Tickets ($8-$20) are on sale now for The Merry Wives of Windsor and Much Ado About Nothing and can be purchased online at www.waterworkstheatre.com. In addition to its outdoor productions, Water Works will also offer performance minded students an opportunity to learn from the experts with the Water Works Academy and KidsAct July 29 - August 10.

WSU's CINDERELLA to Play Local Public Elementary Schools this Month

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance will launch its inaugural Detroit Youth Theatre and Dance Journey with the children's play Cinderella or It's Okay to Be Different by Cynthia Mercati on June 4, 2013 and will travel to eleven different Detroit Public Elementary Schools throughout the month of June. The production will play at the Hilberry Theatre on June 20, June 21, June 23, June 27, June 28 and June 30 to provide an opportunity for all children and adults to enjoy Cinderella or It's Okay to Be Different. The performance on June 27 at 10:30 a.m. is already sold out.

The New Theatre Project Opens EDWARD THE SECOND Tonight

The New Theatre Project continues its successful third season with a return to contemporary reworkings from the classical theater canon. 'We spent many months last year searching through anthologies and old books looking for just the right play to take on,' says Artistic Director Keith Paul Medelis. 'Eventually we came to look at Edward II published in 1593. It is not frequently produced but there is magic in it.' Edward the Second will play tonight, March 1-31.
