BWW Reviews: WAR HORSE at the Capitol Theatre is Epic and Intimate

The national tour of WAR HORSE, currently playing the Capitol Theatre, is moving and at once epic and intimate. It is deeply theatrical in its simple, cerebral staging, but it is also spectacular in its groundbreaking puppeteering and its effective, restrained use of projections and lighting effects.

Minnesota Jewish Theater Company is pleased to announce the cast for the regional premiere of The History of Invulnerability by David Bar Katz and directed by Hayley Finn. The show tells the story of the creation of Superman by Jerry Siegel with illustrator Joe Shuster, and the rise of this superhero to iconic status during the 1930s and 40s. Based on true events, this intriguing new play tells the tumultuous story, intertwining the events of a world in strife, a place where even Superman has his limits.

A Portable Theatre Presents PIERCE TO THE SOUL as Second Touring Show, Now thru 4/27

Chiquita Mullins Lee's one-man play Pierce to the Soul will be the second offering by A Portable Theatre (APT), a new professional theatre dedicated to touring. Starring Equity actor Alan Bomar Jones, Pierce is the true story of folk artist Elijah Pierce, an Ohio legend. Touring performances begin tonight, April 12.

Jungle Theater to Present DETROIT, 4/11-5/25

The Jungle Theater presents the regional premiere of DETROIT, playwright Lisa D'Amour's award-winning dissection of what it means to be middle class in this era of economic uncertainty. Detroit takes place in a first-ring suburb outside a mid-sized American city where Ben (John Middleton) and Mary (Angie Timberman) fire up the grill to welcome the couple (Anna Sundberg and Tyson Forbes) who've moved into the long-empty house next door. The fledgling friendship soon veers out of control shattering the fragile hold that newly unemployed Ben and burgeoning alcoholic Mary have on their way of life - with unexpected comic consequences. The play opens April 11 and runs through May 25 at the Jungle Theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S. in Minneapolis.

Steve Hendrickson & James A. Williams to Lead ABE LINCOLN AND UNCLE TOM IN THE WHITE HOUSE at Guthrie Theatre

The Guthrie Theater today announced it will welcome the return of Carlyle Brown & Company with Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House, a new play which imagines a meeting between two icons in life and literature - President Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe's fictional character Uncle Tom. Written and directed by Carlyle Brown (Are You Now or Have You Ever Been...), this original piece will play from March 21-April 6, 2014 in the Dowling Studio. Jungle Theatre Opens SHAKESPEARE'S WILL Tonight

To open its 2014 Season, the Jungle Theater presents the regional premiere of SHAKESPEARE'S WILL, written by award-winning Canadian playwright Vern Thiessen. After the death of William Shakespeare, his widow, Anne Hathaway (played by Cathy Fuller in her Jungle debut), recalls her life with - and without - the enigmatic poet. Artistic Director Bain Boehlke designs and directs an imaginative story of a wife and mother who made tremendous sacrifices for love and life, opening tonight, February 7 and running through March 23 at the Jungle Theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S. in Minneapolis.

FOUR LITTLE GIRLS: BIRMINGHAM 1963 Staged Reading Set for First Corinthian Baptist Church, 2/3

Actors' Equity Association ('AEA' or Equity) and its Eastern Region Equal Employment Opportunity Committee, together with First Corinthian Baptist Church and Executive Producer and Artistic Producer Project1Voice present 'FOUR LITTLE GIRLS: BIRMINGHAM 1963,' a one night only staged reading event to be held on Monday, February 3rd at 7:30pm at First Corinthian Baptist Church (1912 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., between West 115th & 116th Streets, Harlem NYC). This Black History Month event is free and open to the public (doors open at 6:45pm; ticketing and entry will be handled on-site, day of show, on a first-come, first-served basis) and will be sign-language-interpreted for theatregoers who are deaf or hard of hearing. A panel discussion will take place immediately following the reading.
