This summer, BroadwayWorld.com introduced it's first, exclusive, fully scripted program series - SUBMISSIONS ONLY, created, written, and directed by Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. The pair also stars in the series, which enjoyed an extremely successful Season 1 on YouTube and was streamed throughout the summer on BroadwayWorld.com in anticipation of SUBMISSIONS ONLY's second season, which will now be broadcast EXCLUSIVELY on BroadwayWorld. The first episode of the new season was given it's first screening on Monday, September 26 for the company and today it goes live to the world on BroadwayWorld. According to The New York Times, the production may be headed for Broadway: a source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the paper that talks are underway between Disney and the Nederlander Organization and Jujamcyn Theaters, who seek to house the show for the upcoming season. All announcements from Disney have noted that the production was intended to set the oft-requested show up for licensing, not for a commercial transfer, though insiders have been speculating that positive reviews (which the show received) would result in a move.

Newsies is inspired by the real life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899,' when newsboy Kid Blink led the ragged orphans and runaways known as newsies on a two-week-long action against Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, the musical is the tale of newsie Jack Kelly, who dreams of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when Pulitzer and Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsies' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies his army of newsies to strike. The on stage premiere of NEWSIES opened this Sunday, September 25, at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. The musical is based on the 1899 true story of a courageous group of scrappy newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they rally forces to fight an unscrupulous newspaper tycoon. 'NEWSIES' features a book by Harvey Fierstein, lyrics by Jack Feldman and music by Alan Menken. Based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. The hosts of 'The View' introduced the world television premiere performance of the brand new Disney stage musical, 'NEWSIES,' adapted from the popular Disney film starring Christian Bale, this week. Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who wrote music for the 1992 motion picture 'Newsies' and has won eight Oscars© for such memorable scores as 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Pocahontas,' helped introduce the cast performance medley of both 'Santa Fe' and 'Seize The Day.'
