HAIRSPRAY, VENUS IN FUR & More Set for RLT's 2014-15 Season

Raleigh Little Theatre (RLT) has announced the theme of its 2014-15 season. 'A Season of Love,' approaches the topic of love from a variety of angles. Whether it's love of one's family and a teenage romance in Hairspray, the love between a child and a toy in The Velveteen Rabbit, or a historical novel colliding with a modern tale in Venus In Fur, the theme offers many compelling iterations for audiences of all ages. RLT also plans to name a new artistic director this spring, the culmination of a nation-wide search near completion. In February 2015, the artistic director will play an integral part in the a comedy in the Sutton Series, plays that focus on classic titles for general audiences.

The Broadway production of A Night With Janis Joplin plays its final performance tonight, Sunday, February 9 at 7PM at the Lyceum Theatre. The show has played 22 preview performances and 141 regular performances since beginning previews on Friday, September 20 and opening on Thursday, October 10. A Night With Janis Joplin will move to a new home in New York City this March.

Greg Edwards & Andy Sandberg's acclaimed two-actor, 30-character comedy about travel agents and the people they serve, Craving for Travel, now making its world premiere at the Peter J. Sharp Theater (416 W. 42nd Street, NYC), will close as scheduled this Sunday, February 9. The play is commissioned and produced by Jim Strong, one of America's leading luxury travel agents, and directed by Sandberg.
Broadway's ROCKY Announces Lottery Policy

ROCKY, beginning previews February 11 and officially opening on March 13, announces a day-of-performance lottery for Golden Circle seats in the first two rows of Broadway's historic Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway, New York, NY). Golden Circle ticketholders will be escorted onto the stage to watch the climatic fight during the final 20 minutes of the performance. Entry to the lottery will begin two hours prior to each performance and the winners will be announced 90 minutes prior to curtain. Starting out as a Broadway playwright and writing for film (including the screenplay for Elvis Presley's KING CREOLE),Gazzo was an instrumental figure in the Actors Studio and went on to film and TV acting until his death in 1995.
Teens Compete for Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee Youth of the Year Honor Today

Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee will host a competition in which one teen member will be named the local Youth of the Year. The newly named Middle Tennessee Youth of the Year will next compete against other Boys & Girls Clubs members across Tennessee for the state title and a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation and a $5,000 college scholarship from the Tennessee Titans Foundation. State winners move on to vie for the distinction of one of five regional winners across the country, and ultimately those five winners will contend for the title of National Youth of the Year.

Dallas Theater Center announced today the award-winning cast and creative team for the world premiere new musical The Fortress of Solitude, a co-production with The Public Theater in New York City. The Fortress of Solitude is based on the nationally best-selling novel of the same name by 2005 MacArthur Fellow Jonathan Lethem. The musical is conceived and directed by Daniel Aukin, with a book by Itamar Moses, and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman. The Barn Players Community Theatre held its annual Barney Awards Celebration Saturday evening, February 1st, to a full house despite the weather. Founded in 1955 by Earl Altaire, a Kansas City interior designer and theatre devotee, the theatre is nationally recognized and the new 2014 season will be The Barn Players 59th consecutive season.
