MET to Present 'THE VIBRATOR PLAY,' 5/30-6/22

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) will present a 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist and a 2010 Tony Nominee for Best Play, In The Next Room or The Vibrator Play by Sarah Ruhl. The smart, touching, and hilarious period play will be directed by MET Associate Artistic Director, Julie Herber. In The Next Room will run every Thursday through Sunday at Maryland Ensemble Theatre from May 30 through June 22, 2014.

When you enter Andrew Jackson Hall at Tennessee Performing Arts Center this week, you'll be greeted with a backdrop with these words: "On December 4, 1956, one man brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together to play for the first and only time. His name was Sam Phillip…The place was Sun Records… That night they made rock 'n' roll history." This sets the mood for the night right away. You can't help but know you're about to see something special. Million Dollar Quartet has come to Nashville. Fluctuating somewhere between a memoir, and musical, and a rock concert, Million Dollart Quartet is set in another of Tennessee's famed cities, Memphis.

Working Artists Theatre Project, in collaboration with the David Lynch Foundation, presents a staged play reading benefit of James McLure's companion comedies Lone Star and Laundry and Bourbon under the title 1959 Pink Thunderbird, featuring a cast of Broadway talent. All proceeds will benefit the Operation Warrior Wellness Project in teaching War Veterans with PTSD Transcendental Meditation.

Million Dollar Quartet, the musical about an iconic day in the history of music, opens at Tennessee Performing Arts Center this week. In a city so full of music, Million Dollar Quartet is set to fit right in. Casting has been announced and a complete schedule is set for SUMMERWORKS 2014 - the annual season of new plays presented by the four-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb -- it has been announced by Maria Striar, Clubbed Thumb's Producing Artistic Director. SUMMERWORKS 2014 will be presented May 30 to July 5 at The Wild Project (195 E. 3rd St.) in Manhattan. Single tickets are now on sale for $18, students tickets are $15 and festival passes are $45. SUMMERWORKS 2014 will feature productions of three new plays: 41-DERFUL written and directed by Jenny Schwartz; I'M PRETTY f**kED UP by Ariel Stess, directed by Kip Fagan, and 16 WORDS OR LESS by Peggy Stafford, directed by Portia Krieger.
