Jazz pianist and MacArthur 'Genius' award recipient Jason Moran and internationally acclaimed, Chicago-based visual artist Theaster Gates premiere their new work, Looks of a Lot, in a Symphony Center Presents Jazz series concert tonight, May 30 at 8 p.m. Influenced by Chicago stories from various eras, the project represents the second commission by Symphony Center Presents Jazz series and is also a part of the CSO's Truth to Power Festival, offering an exploration of transformative music composed during some of the most challenging chapters of history.

PRISM Quartet Turns 30 and the saxophone quartet announces an ambitious three-part concert series in NYC and Philadelphia that charts fresh musical territory: “HERITAGE/EVOLUTION.”The classical PRISM Quartet commissions six of today's most inventive jazz saxophonists to compose sax quintets & sextets and perform them with PRISM. In tandem with the recently announced Heritage/Evolution, PRISM Quartet announces the release of their new 2-disc recording People's Emergency Center, Music for Saxophones by Matthew Levy. Street Date: May 27, 2014 on Innova Recordings. The album features seven distinctive jazz voices as guest artists: Tim Ries, soprano saxophone, Rudresh Mahanthappa, alto saxophone, Jason Moran, piano, Ben Monder, guitar, Jay Anderson, bass, Bill Stewart, drums, and François Zayas, percussion.

Japan Society has announced an added performance in the September 18-22 limited engagement of renowned puppet artist Basil Twist's award-winning Dogugaeshi, the production launching Japan Society's 60th Anniversary Performing Arts Season: Japan, the U.S. & Beyond!. Originally set to play seven performances, the production has added an eighth performance: Saturday, September 21 at 2:00pm. Complete schedule as follows: Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00pm; Thursday, September 19 at 7:30pm; Friday, September 20 at 7:00 & 9:30pm; Saturday, September 21 at 2:00, 7:00 & 9:30pm; and Sunday, September 22 at 2:00 pm.

Seminal video and performance artist Joan Jonas presents her cutting edge multi-media video performance, The Shape, the Scent, the Feel of Things, May 4 & 5 at the McCullough Theatre. Since the 1970s, Jonas has worked between various mediums, freely incorporating video, movement, music, sculpture, and the spoken word into open-end narratives. Featuring original piano score written and performed live by Jason Moran, this collaborative work evokes the American Southwest through an artistic consideration of the Hopi snake dance, a ritual that affected Jonas during visits to Arizona in the 1960s.
