Today we are celebrating one of the most popular musicals of the modern age in honor of the new film version opening today, ANNIE!

With ANNIE returning to the big screen this week, we've rounded up the musical's leading ladies -- both onstage and off -- since 1977!

The upcoming big screen adaptation of ANNIE, doesn't hitting theaters until December 19, but the film already made its New York City premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater. Below, check out photos from the red carpet!

As a kid, I loved all things Annie. I wasn't yet born when the show premiered on Broadway, but was introduced to it - like many were in the 80s - through the cast recording and the initial movie version. I'm no longer a little kid, but I have to admit I was pretty excited to see Andrea McArdle - the original red-headed orphan who I had previously only heard on an audio recording - in her solo cabaret performance at Kennedy Center last week as part of the Barbara Cook's Spotlight Series. The series features some of the best performers that Broadway has to offer and Ms. McArdle is certainly deserving of her place within that elite group for her long career in musical theatre.

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston will present its annual spectacular, ChristmasTime, from today, December 5-14th at the Robinson Theatre (617 Lexington Street, Waltham, MA 02452).

Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Leslie Uggams (Roots, Hallelujah, Baby!) will open a new window this holiday season when she stars in Jerry Herman's glorious musical MAME at the Wick Theatre in Boca Raton, Florida. Based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis, this Tony Award-nominated classic is filled with irresistible songs including 'Open a New Window,' 'We Need a Little Christmas,' 'Bosom Buddies' and 'If He Walked into My Life.' The book is by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman.

The Annenberg Theatre kicked off its' starry 2014-2015 Cabaret Season with four of Broadway's most celebrated leading ladies - Donna McKechnie, Andrea McArdle, Maureen McGovern and Randy Graff - in an unforgettable evening of song and story to a "standing room only" crowd dotted with several other Broadway luminaries including Carol Channing, Kaye Ballard and composer David Zippel. Under the masterful musical direction of John McDaniel, this quintessential quartet delivered well beyond my already high expectations and to say the evening was "memorable" would be nothing short of an understatement.

Legendary Broadway singer Andrea McArdle is returning to TheatreZone to headline the non-profit Equity theatre group's 10th anniversary concert today announced TheatreZone artistic director Mark Danni.

Happy Birthday Andrea McArdle! As 'Annie,' McArdle became the youngest performer ever to be nominated for a Tony Award as Best Lead Actress in a Musical.
