With a stage career spanning half a century that includes dozens of notable performances in New York alone, Andre De Shields knows a thing or two about seducing an audience. And that's exactly what he does at the opening of Anais Mitchell's exhilarating bluesy mythological folk opera HADESTOWN, which has finally landed on Broadway after a premiere engagement at New York Theatre Workshop, followed by stints in Edmonton and London.
Following record-breaking runs at New York Theatre Workshop and Canada's Citadel Theatre, and the National Theatre, the new musical Hadestown opens on Broadway tonight.

MOTOWN: The Musical and Helen Hayes nominee N'Kenge, returned this season to Houston Symphony Orchestra for the Ella Fitzgerald Songbook Concert under the baton of Maestro Steven Reineke. The show celebrates the great jazz era showcasing some of the most timeless musical gems like Stormy Weather, One for my Baby, Come Rain Come Shine and more. To complete the dazzling cast were Broadway favorites Montego Glover and Capathia Jenkins.
It's hard to believe that it's been over 40 years now since a little revue that started at New York's Manhattan Theatre Club took Broadway by storm. The show was Ain't Misbehavin' and if you didn't know who composer Thomas “Fats” Waller was before, you did after seeing this show. It also made Nell Carter a star and garnered her a television series called Gimme a Break. Besides Carter the cast was comprised of Charlaine Woodard, Armelia McQueen, Andre De Shields, and Ken Page. When the original cast returned for a Broadway revival of the show in the 80's, Nell Carter received star billing even though the show is truly an ensemble piece. Ah, the power of television.

Sonia Friedman, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold present the Young Vic production which opened in the West End on Saturday 13th October to widespread critical acclaim, with reviews recognising it as a modern classic, and one of the most important plays for many years.
