The Civilians' world premiere production Pretty Filthy kicks off the 100th anniversary celebration of the Playhouse at Abrons Arts Center. The Civilians is known for its singular approach to making what it calls 'investigative theater,' a process in which the show's creators immerse themselves in a subject matter, conducting extensive interviews and research. This brand of journalistic theater-making enables the company to tackle complex subjects with intelligence, humanity and humor.

This is a unique nightclub act all about working in the trenches of live entertainment. It's a true story-told in song-about how you get in, stay in, manage to eat and have a roof over your head, and sometimes thrive. In short: it's about the agony and the ecstasy of show business. Jillian will regale audiences with songs both famous and obscure, from theater, country, and pop, and perhaps even a genre or two too beneath the radar to have a name. She will be joined by special guest Alyse Alan Louis, and Ian Herman at the piano. It's all about entertainment!

The hysterical new musical Academia Nuts has been selected to kick off the first week of the celebrated New York Musical Theatre Festival with performances from July 9-13, 2014 at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street). Academia Nuts has book and lyrics by Becca Anderson & Dan Marshall, and music by Julian Blackmore, with direction by Thomas Caruso, musical direction by Martyn Axe, and choreography by Ryan Kasprzak. The Kleban Foundation's 24th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to Nathan Tysen and the 24th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Arthur Perlman.The 2014 prizes were presented last night, June 23, 2014, in a private ceremony (by invitation only) hosted by ASCAP and BMI.
