Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces Winner Of The Second Annual Terrence McNally New Play Award

Philadelphia Theatre Company has announced A. ZELL WILLIAMS as the recipient of the Terrence McNally New Play Award for the research and development of his play The Urban Retreat about a teacher whose writing career has taken a detour at the request of a former student-turned-Hip-Hop superstar. The Terrence McNally New Play Award is a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art. The Award will also include a year of development support at PTC, including readings as well as administrative support and networking to help manage the future of the play beyond its time at PTC.

Philadelphia Theatre Company presents PTC@Play, a two-week festival of new work today, February 18-March 3 at PTC's home at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The festival will feature staged readings of four new plays by both established and emerging playwrights, a new play with music in development starring Tony and Barrymore Award winner Forrest McClendon as African American vaudeville legend Bert Williams, and an evening of short plays, FuturePhilly@Play, by seven emerging playwrights. Each playwright will be in-residence at PTC for their reading, and every reading will conclude with a reception where audiences and artists can meet. All events are free with curtain time at 7:30 PM. The LIDA Project's RED HOT PATRIOT Will Play Aurora's Fox Theatre, 11/2-10

After a sold out run at its new location in Denver, The LIDA Project is proud to announce the transfer and extension of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins by twin journalist sisters, Margaret and Allison Engel starring Rhonda Brown and directed by Brian Freeland. The play tells the story of the unsinkable Molly Ivins, the famously brassy newspaper columnist and best-selling author. A true Texas original, Ivins was a sharp-tongued wit who skewered the political establishment and the 'good ol' boys' with her unforgettable humor and wisdom. The play celebrates Ivins' courage and tenacity - even when a complacent America wasn't listening.

Iconic stage and screen actress Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater to star in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, as the feisty, unforgettable political journalist. Written by twin-sister journalists Margaret Engel and Allison Engel and directed by David Esbjornson (Broadway's The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? and Driving Miss Daisy), the D.C. premiere kicks off Arena Stage's 2012/13 season playing tonight, August 23 through October 28, 2012 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

Stage West Extends RED HOT PATRIOT thru June 24

Stage West has announced that it has a new box office record-holder with its production of Red Hot Patriot, the Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel. The show has been selling out almost every performance, and few seats remain for the original final week of June 14-17, so Stage West has added three more performances.
