TheatreWorks New Milford has announced its spring production, the comedy-drama, THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO by Alfred Uhry - winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play.

Labyrinth Theater Company, the award-winning, downtown ensemble, announced today the initial lineup for Pulitzer Fest, a festival of play readings celebrating Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, featuring Labyrinth Theater Company Members and Guest Artists. Five plays will be presented over the course of one week, followed by additional free play readings on the weekend. The weekend schedule will be announced later this month. A post-show discussion with the playwright and a guest moderator will follow select readings for weekday performances. The plays will be presented at Labyrinth's home in New York City's West Village, the Bank Street Theater (155 Bank Street).

Ford's Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault today announced that the Ford's Theatre 2014-2015 season will include mainstage productions of Driving Miss Daisy, headlined by Nancy Robinette and Craig Wallace, the return of Edward Gero as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, the world premiere of The Widow Lincoln by James Still, and a new musical, Freedom's Song, still in development, inspired by the words of Lincoln and those who lived through the Civil War.

Playwright Meg Miroshnik, winner of the 2012 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition for her play The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls, has been described by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as 'a ferocious talent with a promising career in store.'

North Carolina Theatre (NCT), the region's premier producer of professional Broadway shows, has announced that Sandy Duncan has been cast in the title role of Driving Miss Daisy, playing Fletcher Auditorium in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, May 2-11, 2014.

The evening will be co-hosted by two of the company's alumni actors: two-time Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce (at PH in Richard Greenberg's The Maderati in 1987) and two-time Tony Award nominee, two-time Obie Award winner and 2012 Special Drama Desk Award winner Mary Testa (at PH in William Finn's In Trousers in 1979, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Lucky Stiff in 1988, Tom Donaghy's From Above in 1998/Obie Award and Kathleen Tolan's The Wax in 2000).

Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere production of STAGE KISS, a new play marking the eagerly-awaited return of two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl (Dead Man's Cell Phone at PH; The Clean House, In the Next Room...) to the theater company. Directed by Rebecca Taichman (Milk Like Sugar at PH; the current Marie Antoinette, Orlando, The Scene, Luck of the Irish), the production begins previews this evening, February 7 at 8PM with an Opening Night set for Sunday, March 2 at 7PM. The limited engagement will play through Sunday evening, March 23 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).

Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of Outside Mullingar, the new play by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner John Patrick Shanley, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, opened last night, January 23 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street) in a strictly limited 11-week engagement. In a feature discussing upcoming HD broadcasts of theatre productions around the world, The New York Times revealed that Ed Greenberg and Lee deBoer's Broadway Near You is planning to distribute the recent Australian production of DRIVING MISS DAISY, starring Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones, to cinemas this spring. The show also has first-look deals with producers, including the Lincoln Center Theater. Still no word on a possible Broadway production.
