Gateway Festival Orchestra Launches 47th Season at Washington University 7/11

The Gateway Festival Orchestra will launch its 47th season of free Sunday-evening concerts at Washington University July 11 with 'Music for the Night,' a program of works on nocturnal themes. Musical director James Richards will conduct the performance, which will open with the 'witches' Sabbath' scene from Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain (1867). Next up will be American composer Arthur Foote's A Night Piece (1918), featuring solo flutist Jan Scott, professor emerita at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Concluding the program will be a medley of works from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Phantom of the Opera (1986) and from Johannes Brahms' Orchestral Serenade No. 1 in D Major (1857).

Media City Ballet Announces Season

Media City Ballet (MCB), Natasha Middleton, Artistic Director, will open the company's Seventh Annual Season with a program entitled 'Ballet Russe Remembered,' to be presented at the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Boulevard, Glendale, CA on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. The All-Russian program will feature Principal Dancers from Media City Ballet. The Maple Youth Ballet, Charles Maple, Director, as will appear as a Guest Ballet Company.

Michael Ball to Star in English Opera's Kismet Summer '07

English National Opera announces that Michael Ball will perform the role of Hajj/Poet in the new production of Robert Wright & George Forrest's KISMET. Based on themes of Alexander Borodin and the play by Edward Knoblock, the book is by Charles Lederer & Luther Davies. This is the first new West End production for almost 30 years.
