New York City Center's 2006 Encores! Season will open on February 9th with Kismet, starring Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell (Man of La Mancha, Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime) and Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime, Passion), along with Tom Aldredge, Danny Gurwin, Marcy Harriell, Randall, Duk Kim and Danny Rutigliano. The engagement, which runs February 9th through 12th, is directed by Lonny Price, and marks Paul Gemignani's debut as music director.

With a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 40 members, Kismet
is the largest production ever presented by City Center Encores! Kismet, based on a play by Edward Knoblock, features music by Alexander Borodin, musical adaptation and lyrics by Robert Wright and George Forrest and a book by Charles Lederer and Luther Davis. The story follows an inventive poet-scoundrel (Mitchell), his beautiful daughter (Harriell) and a wicked Wazir (Rutigliano) and his man-hungry wife (Mazzie).

Set in exotic Baghdad, Kismet is an Arabian Night-style comedy with a lush, romantic score that includes "And This Is My Beloved," "Stranger in Paradise," and "Baubles, Bangles and Beads." The show opened on Broadway on December 3, 1953 and ran for 583 performances, from 1953-1955, winning six Tony Awards. Alfred Drake, Dolores Gray and Richard Kiley starred.

The show's performance schedule is
Thursday, February 9th at 8 PM, Friday, February 10th at 8 PM, Saturday, February 11th at 2 PM and 8 PM and Sunday, February 12th at 6:30 PM.  Tickets for the 2006 Encores! Season are available at the New York City Center Box Office (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues), through CityTix at 212-581-1212, or online at www.nycitycenter.org.
