Deaf West Theatre's acclaimed Broadway production of SPRING AWAKENING closes today, Sunday, January 24 after 129 performances. The production will have life after Broadway, however, with a national tour scheduled to launch in 2017.
The current revival of SPRING AWAKENING by Deaf West Theatre has made its one year journey from a small theatre, to the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts, and is now on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The year long experience has united the cast and their deep chemistry is apparent- both on and off the stage. Just one aspect that makes the show so magical is the coming together of the Deaf and hearing theatrical communities, and their endless creativity can be seen in everything they do. One recent example is the hilarious video An Autocorrect Nightmare directed, written, and produced by cast member, Alex Wyse.
This morning's GOOD MORNING AMERICA went behind-the-scenes of Broadway's SPRING AWAKENING with the help of the show's stars Marlee Matlin, Camryn Manheim and director Michael Arden.
This history-making Broadway revival of SPRING AWAKENING, performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 28, is breaking boundaries yet again. But this time, their new cast members could have stumbled straight out of THE WALKING DEAD. Below, watch a new spoof (written and directed by Alex Wyse) about how a fatal autocorrect error led to 'Dead' West's undead SPRING AWAKENING!

Parody Twitter accounts can be a lot of things. They can be sarcastic (Condescending Wonka), they can make you think (Bored Elon Musk), they can be utterly ridiculous (not the real Bill Murray). The theatre community's favorite parody account, Annoying Actor Friend, has been all of those things at different times during its nearly three and a half year existence. The one constant for the character, whether it was brazenly flirting with the official SMASH account, championing causes important to theatre actors and fans, or shamelessly plugging its concerts and books, has been its anonymity. That is of course until yesterday when the account, followed by over 20,000 people, innocuously retweeted a link from a seemingly random blog by Andrew Briedis.
BroadwayWorld is excited to report that Deaf West Theatre's acclaimed Broadway production of Spring Awakening has just announced plans for a national tour to begin in 2017.
