Florida Repertory Theatre's production of A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, directed by Jason Parrish, tells the story of Monty Navarro, a young man who learns he is part of the D'Ysquith family and is in line to become the Earl of Highhurst; the only problem is, there are 8 other D'Ysquiths in line ahead of him. Things get a bit tricky as Monty decides to, as you can guess from the title of the show, try and murder his way into becoming the Earl.
Florida Repertory Theatre has announced the opening of the Tony Award-winning best musical, 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder,' to continue its 22nd season in the Fort Myers River District. Last night's episode of GREY'S ANATOMY was all about secrets—specifically the deep dark personal secrets that are just too revealing to tell anybody. The episode was aptly titled “None of Your Business”. Several characters navigated romantic, professional and familiar relationships while keeping a secret close to the chest. By the end of the episode, most of those secrets remained unspoken. This might seem frustrating to viewers who just want our favorite characters to open up and share…but at the same time, it is pretty darn realistic.
If you're looking for something queer, Pagan, or just plain "not Christmas" this December as an antidote to the cornucopia of Santa hats and live Nativities this winter, look no further than Gadfly's own headquarters, The Fox Egg Gallery on December 17th and 18th. Gadfly and its long-term non-monogamous partner The Fox Egg Gallery manage to fit something for everyone into two meaningful nights of community and connection.
“Catastrophe And The Cure”—The second episode of season 13 of GREY'S ANATOMY aired last night, and the show continues to move each plot forward in interesting ways—Alex continues to face the repercussions of his assault on Deluca—personally, professionally, and legally; Both Jo and Deluca also have to face the emotional and professional fallout of Alex's actions; the Meredith/Maggie/Riggs love triangle continues its slow and awkward burn toward inevitable hurt feelings—even though Meredith somehow seems to think that this is avoidable; Jackson and April work to figure out the whole parenting-while-divorced-and-while-mom-is-recovering-from-surgery thing; and Owen and Amelia adapt to being married and therefore kind of needing to communicate with each other—a skill at which this couple has always fluctuated from being awful to amazing. Those fluctuations continued last night.

It's Halloween weekend and every dramatic personage and theatrical type we've ever encountered is caught up in the annual rush to find just the right costume for their holiday revelries (we confess we've never had the knack for coming up with Halloween get-ups - not since we went in drag to a party at the First Baptist Church as the age of 12…tongues were wagging, we are certain, but we lived to tell about it, so it couldn't have been that bad). In the meantime, there are all sorts of onstage happenings this weekend to keep you otherwise engaged should the difficulty of selecting your costume prove to be too much.
There's the definite feeling of autumn in the air that makes you want to gut a pumpkin or at least have a pumpkin spice latte, chances are you are definitely going to need a sweater in the early morning hours, and it's past the perfect time for you to pick out a Halloween costume. Luckily, theater companies are well into their new seasons and there's plenty of shows to entertain you while you take time off from berating yourself for wearing that same tricked-out Star Wars costume you wore the past fwo-and-one-half years.
There's a definite feeling of autumn in the air in Middle Tennessee - despite this week's warmer temperatures and plenty of sunshine - and as the calendar moves forward toward Halloween and the time of ghost stories and other sinister tales comes the opening of playwright David Alford's SPIRIT: The Authentic Bell Witch Experience, the final event of this year's Bell Witch Fall Festival in his hometown of Adams, Tennessee.
There are many ways a playwright, filmmaker, writer or artist can work their themes and messages into a creative work. In some cases, those themes are delivered subtly, with nuance, so they're almost imperceptible at first but land in the audience's mind long after they've witnessed the work of art. At the other end of the spectrum, important messages can be put at the forefront, told in forceful and undeniable ways so that the audience is immediately confronted with them. Both of those approaches can and do often work. Unfortunately, in the Wilbury Group's current production of Rapture, Blister, Burn, the messages are delivered at the expense of a captivating compelling story or engaging characters.
There are an endless number of ways for a new theater company to make its mark. In a crowded artistic and theatrical landscape, a fledgling company must find a way to stand out and be noticed. A way to make its voice heard. Some will succeed spectacularly while others will fail just as spectacularly. Now entering its third season, OUT LOUD Theatre has begun to carve out quite a successful path for itself. Last season's Metamorphoses proved just how talented and skillful the company could be at pure storytelling. This season's opening show, Fefu and Her Friends, allows the company to demonstrate equal talent in bringing a distinctive voice and vision to a theatrical event that is entertaining and exhilarating.
