BWW Reviews: Storytelling at Its Finest in Out Loud Theatre's METAMORPHOSES
by Robert Barossi
- Oct 6, 2014
The only thing that is permanent is change. Change is inevitable. It's going to happen, and stories of how things and people change have been told for centuries. Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses, presented by Out Loud Theatre at Artists' Exchange in Cranston, is a collection of ancient myths, all of which somehow involve a change or altering. What hasn't changed is how powerful and important these stories of change are. It's a true testament to the power of myth that these stories still hold up in our modern age. They are just as relevant and relatable today as when they were written by Ovid, a Latin poet who is believed to have completed his collection of poems around 8 A.D.

BWW Reviews: Such Sport! THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED and So Will You
by Giordana Segneri
- Nov 28, 2011
While this production borrows its title from a childish poem, it should by no means be mistaken for children's entertainment, and in fact, an early scene's full-frontal male nudity audibly takes the full house at Fells Point Corner Theatre by surprise. But the adult content shares quite a few themes with the nursery rhymes and fables that underscore our childhood: It's all about the pursuit of happiness and how our success or failure in that quest hinges on our decisions.
'Fatal Attraction' to get West End Treatment?
by Jessica Lewis
- May 10, 2010
According to the U.K. Times and other published reports, the1987 film Fatal Attraction, which famously starred Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, is being adapted for the London stage by writer Hames Dearden and is being primed for a West End run as early as the end of 2010. Dearden, who also wrote the original screenplay, will set the romance thriller in the present and there is talk that the Glenn Close character, 'Alex' may live in the end of this latest incarnation. It is expected that the stage version may be all-around less violent. However, the infamous 'rabbit scene' will remain, as Dearden tells the U.K.'s Sunday Times: 'Without it the audience might demand their money back.' The play is being produced by Robert Fox.
FUNNY BONES: Theatre Out's THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED is witty, with satiric bite
by BWW News Desk
- Sep 19, 2009
The fear that coming out in public spells box office poison for a marquee-desiring actor is at the center of Douglas Carter Beane's THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED, presented by Theatre Out, Orange County's gay and lesbian theatre. The play, which received a Tony® Award nomination for Best Play in 2007, is chock-full of witty, Hollywood-insider laughs and a continuous barrage of funny monologues (even touching and poignant at times) from each character. This particular production of the hilariously written play, which originated as a workshop presentation at the University of California at Irvine, gives its foursome of actors plenty of great lines to deliver.
