NY Philharmonic Ends Season with AL LARGO and MISSA SOLEMNIS, 6/23-26

Alan Gilbert will conclude his first season as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic conducting two works: AL LARGO, a World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Commission by Magnus Lindberg, The Marie-Josée Kravis Composer-in- Residence, and Beethoven's MISSA SOLEMNIS, Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 26, at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Gilbert will also conduct the Philharmonic in the Beethoven MISSA SOLEMNIS at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 8:00 p.m.

In the second of the final three weeks of his inaugural season, Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Wagner's Siegfried Idyll; HK Gruber's trumpet concerto Aerial; Mozart's Symphony No. 25; and Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde, Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m., and Saturday, June 19, at 8:00 p.m. Joining the Orchestra to perform Aerial will be the Swedish trumpet virtuoso, Håkan Hardenberger, for whom it was written, and who is making his New York Philharmonic debut.

NY Philharmonic Earns ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming

The New York Philharmonic is to be honored today with two 2009-10 ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming at the League of American Orchestras' Annual Meeting at its 65th National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The Philharmonic will receive the Award for American Programming on Foreign Tours, and a First Place Award for Programming of Contemporary Music.

Lincoln Center Festival 2010 Announces Updated Musical Lineup

Lincoln Center Festival began with the idea of expanding the possibilities presented at Lincoln Center and bringing to audiences something that they could not see elsewhere. This is a challenging goal in a city as culturally rich as New York, and the result has been an eclectic mix of artists and productions representing over 50 countries as of Festival 2009.

New York Philharmonic Plays Copland, Haydn, et. al. For Memorial Day Concert 5/31

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in his first free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 31, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. This will be the 19th annual free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Music will also be piped out onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of Le Grand Macabre, the absurdist opera by György Ligeti, in a staged production directed and designed by Douglas Fitch and produced by Edouard Getaz, Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., and Friday, May 28, and Saturday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m. Single tickets for the performances are $31 to $112 and can be purchased online at nyphil.org or by calling (212) 875-5656, Tickets may also be purchased at the Avery Fisher Hall Box Office or the Alice Tully Hall Box Office at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 65th Street. On Tuesday, May 11 at 6:30 PM Alan Gilbert and Douglas Fitch will participate in an Insights Series Event, Conversation About Le Grand Macabre, at the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse. Tickets are $20.

Chef Kurt Gutenbrunner Joins New York Philharmonic's MUSICAL SUPPERS, 5/28

Due to popular demand, the New York Philharmonic has added a fifth dinner to its series of post-concert Musical Suppers. Kurt Gutenbrunner - chef and proprietor of New York City restaurants Wallsé, Café Sabarsky, and Blaue Gans and the wine bar The Upholstery Store - will design the menu to be served on Friday, May 28, 2010.

Alan Gilbert Conducts Philharmonic Orchestra's School Day Concert, 5/19-21

In his continuing commitment to education and to encouraging young people to experience music, New York Philharmonic Music Director, Alan Gilbert will conduct the Orchestra's six School Day Concerts for the first time, Wednesday-Friday, May 19-21, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Mr. Gilbert is the first Philharmonic Music Director to lead these performances since Zubin Mehta did so in February 1991.
