With the roster still building, Theater for the New City has currently scheduled over 200 performing arts organizations, independent artists, poets, puppeteers and film makers for its 28th annual Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, which will be mounted May 26 to 28 in and around Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave. (at E. 10th Street). Admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.
Performance Artist Akiko Tokuoka's new work, “Wakashu - Timeless Beauty of the Third Gender” will premiere in Queens this November. The work, made possible in part by a $3,000 grant from Queens Council on the Arts (QCA), will be staged at Secret Theatre.
Theater for the New City's Emerging Playwrights Program will be beneficiary of the theater's 19th annual Love 'n Courage benefit Monday, February 14, 2022 at The Players, 16 Gramercy Park South. The evening honors Austin Pendleton, Drama Desk and Obie winner, Tony Award nominated actor, playwright, theater director and teacher.
Performance Artist Akiko Tokuoka is one of 3,000 New York City-based artists to receive $5,000 through the City Artist Corps Grants program, presented by The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), with support from the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) as well as Queens Theatre.

NY Fashion Week will be more exciting this year for fashionistas, theater lovers and philantropists! The House of Roderick will bring together fashion and a beautiful, thought-provoking theatrical show comprised of experienced performers from different disciplines- from actors, music composers to dancers and a samurai sword martial artist. Conceptualized by the founder of The House of Roderick, Roderick Gunsell, the performing ensemble is Kashimi Asai, Mari Yamamoto, Koji Nishiyama, Akiko Tokuoka, Anna Bredikhina, Sarah Groginsky, Joyce Laoagan, Nora Mountrane, Andy Miyamotto and Emi Ueda. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to 'Give A Chance Children's Foundation' which caters to children in El Salvador and other underdeveloped countries.
