Florida Grand Opera (FGO) celebrated its opening of the 2016-17 season at its 75th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, November 12th at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts's Ziff Ballet Opera House. Nearly 200 of Miami's philanthropic, social, civic and business influencers arrived in their finest to celebrate the evening's distinguished honorees and the Opera's accomplishments over the past 75 years.

The album out November 18 on Heinz Records features lead singers China Forbes and Storm Large with bandleader/founder Thomas Lauderdale and his “little orchestra.” Pink Martini is joined on the LP by guest vocalists Rufus Wainwright, NPR's Ari Shapiro, fashion guru Ikram Goldmanand civil rights activist Kathleen Saadat.

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is pleased to announce its upcoming partnership with Cuban-born artist, Mildrey Guillot (pronounced: gi-'lot), for the company's upcoming production of Carmen at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. First reported by the Miami Herald, legendary theatrical publicist Charlie Cinnamon has passed away at 94 years old. The paper reports that Cinnamon died Thursday morning, days short of his 95th birthday.

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is pleased to announce the promotion and addition of new members to its music staff. Katherine Kozak, continuing in the position of Chorus Master at Florida Grand Opera and celebrating 20 years in the opera industry, will be promoted to also serve as Head Coach of the company's Young Artist Program. Howard Lubin will serve as Senior Coach, and Paul Schwartz and Paul Kovacovic will fill the roles of staff accompanists.

Friday was a big day at Florida Grand Opera (FGO). The company held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the largest gift in its 75 year history - its 35,000 square foot office and rehearsal space. FGO's General Director and CEO, Susan T. Danis, opened the event with a short introduction welcoming press and donors to the momentous occasion and expressing the sincere gratitude of all those affiliated with the Opera.

In celebration of the upcoming release of Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra, the first-ever classical work composed and performed by R.E.M. bassist and songwriter Mike Mills, Rolling Stone is premiering the track “Sonny Side Up,” which they call “a propulsive, upbeat piece full of weeping violin, driving rhythm guitar and an energetic backbeat.”
