Difficult, but welcome discussions about race and representation continue to spread through the theatre landscape. Yesterday, a group of Middle Eastern and Muslim theater artists from Noor Theatre and elsewhere released a letter expressing concern about Playwrights Horizons' current production of Zayd Dohrn's THE PROFANE. Playwrights Horizons has responded today with a call for public discussion and further collaboration.

Casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for the Signature Theatre production of Venus, written by Residency One playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Obie Award-winner Lear deBessonet.

The most esteemed successor to the seventeenth-century playwright Molière, Marivaux's innovative language reveals the close relationship between refined artistry and raw emotion.  The play is adapted and directed by Mériam Korichi with actors Joan Juliet Buck, Catherine Eaton, Adam Green, and Sophie Orloff; opera singers Clarissa Lyons (soprano), Ashley Kerr (soprano), Nicholas Martorano (baritone), and Alexander Swan (tenor); and pianist Gerald Martin Moore.

Playwrights Horizons presents Rancho Viejo, the world premiere of a new play by Dan LeFranc (The Big Meal at Playwrights, Sixty Miles to Silver Lake, In the Labyrinth) and directed by three-time Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin (Placebo, This at Playwrights; Fool For Love; Bad Jews; 4000 Miles; [sic]). The production opened on December 6 at the company's Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street) and will play through Friday, December 23. Agatha Christie's classic who-done-it, THE MOUSETRAP, which opened March 11 at the McCarter Theatre Centre in Princeton, is splendid. It would be hard for anyone to create a better 'mousetrap' than this performance directed by Adam Immerwahr.

Mayhem and suspicion abound with McCarter Theatre's new production of Agatha Christie's seminal thriller THE MOUSETRAP, directed by Adam Immerwahr. The production runs now through March 27 on the Matthews Stage.
