J. Robert Spencer to Play Final Performance in NEXT TO NORMAL May 16

Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer will play his final performance in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal on Sunday, May 16 at 7:30p.m. A replacement for Mr. Spencer will be announced shortly.

The New York Times confirms today that former President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, their daughter, Chelsea, her fiancé, Marc Mezvinsky, attended the matinee of NEXT TO NORMAL on Saturday afternoon at the Booth Theater, along with a few secret service agents.

Monday's New York Times is reporting that Broadway's Next to Normal has joined the 25-30 percent of Broadway shows that have earned back the show's initial investment. The show marked it's one-year anniversary last night (Saturday) as it it prepares for a national tour that begins in November, producers announced that the show has earned back it's full $4 million in capitalization.

Two of Broadway's up-and-coming stars, Jennifer Damiano and Adam Chanler-Berat, will take their turn in the spotlight at Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street, NYC / Between East 4th and Astor Place) on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 as part of Sh-K-Boom & Ghostlight Records' ongoing concert series. The pair currently star as Natalie and Henry in the Tony-winning musical Next to Normal at Broadway's Booth Theatre. The 9:30pm concert will feature the young talents sharing their musical inspirations through duets and solo performances of some of the songs that made them fall in love with music.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that come next month, Broadway's NEXT TO NORMAL may welcome a new, real life couple into the roles of Diana and Dan. Sarah Uriarte Berry (The Light in the Piazza, Taboo), is now preparing to understudy Diana when regular understudy Jessica Phillips is on vacation the week of February 15. The role of Diana will continue to be played by Tony-winner Alice Ripley. Her husband, Michael Berry, currently understudies Dan and Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine. If all aligns, the couple could appear opposite one another during that week.

Issued by Alfred Music Publishing, the book features 26 songs from the musical including, "I Miss the Mountains," "Everything Else," "You Don't Know," "I Am the One," "Superboy and the Invisible Girl," "I'm Alive," "I've Been, "Didn't I See This Movie," "Hey," "Maybe (Next to Normal)," "So Anyway" and "Light." Next to Normal features music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, and direction by Michael Greif. The musical garnered a Tony Award for Best Original Score.

Aaron Tveit left the Tony-nominated musical Next to Normal on January 4 and the role of Gabe is now being performed by Kyle Dean Massey. Massey previously played the role during Tveit's summer absence from June - September, while he was starring in Catch Me If You Can.
