New Federal Theatre Has Dedicated Its November Readings Series To Ntozake Shange

Woodie King's New Federal Theatre has dedicated its November Readings Series to the memory of the late playwright Ntozake Shange, who died October 27.  The series, now in progress, has been retitled 'Ntozake Shange November Reading Series 2018.'  It runs from November 8 to 18, with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.

Maryland Native Returns Home With Comedic One-Man Show At Charm City Fringe

New York based comedian, actor, writer, and improviser, Joe Minchik, is coming home to perform in his new autobiographical solo show, un-a-parent at the 7th annual Charm City Fringe Festival. A Maryland native who hails from Carroll County, Minchik is returning to perform in Maryland for the first time since moving to New York City ten years ago.

Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre Sets November Readings Series

From November 8 to 18, Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will present 'The November Readings Series,' with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.  This series is devoted to brilliant one- and two-character plays, a dramatic form that most theaters neglect.  It will be used to develop African-American writers and to select plays that New Federal Theatre may present as full productions in its 2019-20 season.  The lineup includes works by Trevor Rhone, Howard Craft, Edgar Nkosi White, J.E. Franklin, Ivy Omere, Larry Muhammad, Richie McCall and Reginald T. Jackson.  Suggested donation is $10 and tickets can be purchased at www.castillo.org. Eighth Annual Bickford Benefit Concert Takes The Stage 11/12

The Eighth Annual Bickford Benefit Concert featuring an all-star ensemble of outstanding jazz artists from the Tri-State area comes to the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum for one night only on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 7:30 PM. The ensemble includes trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg, cornetist Warren Vache, trombonist Mariel Bildsten, clarinetist Dan Levinson, pianist Rossano Sportiello, guitarist/vocalist Molly Ryan, bassist Rob Adkins, and drummer Mark McLean.  All of the ticket sales from this concert will go to support programming at the Bickford Theatre.

TERMS OF ENDEARMENT Reading Raises More Than $100K For SU2C And Geffen Playhouse

More than $100,000 was raised at the exclusive one-night-only reading of Terms of Endearment presented by Berlanti Productions and Jessica Queller at the Geffen Playhouse, it was announced today. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Stand Up To Cancer and Geffen Playhouse's New Play Development Program.

The New Group's THE TRUE Extends Through October 28

Due to demand, The New Group has announced a one-week extension for the world premiere production of Sharr White's The True, with Austin Cauldwell, Edie Falco, Glenn Fitzgerald, Michael McKean, John Pankow, Peter Scolari and Tracy Shayne, directed by Scott Elliott. Originally set to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement through October 21, this production now plays through Sunday, October 28. Previews began September 4 in advance of an Official Opening Night on September 20 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street).
