Alexander Greenfield is an Atlanta-raised, New York-based professional stage director. This past season, he directed THE WHIPPING MAN by Matthew Lopez at the Tony-winning Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Upcoming: Associate Director of OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, a new Broadway play by Tony & Academy Award-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley at the Manhattan Theatre Club & THE CITY OF CONVERSATION by Anthony Giardina at Lincoln Center Theater. Directing credits include: HAPPY DAYS by Samuel Beckett, SWEENEY TODD (Fabrefaction Theatre in Atlanta, GA—Suzi Bass Award Nomination for Outstanding Director; Seven 2012 Atlanta Theater Fan Awards), A NUMBER by Caryl Churchill, and THE BONE VIOLIN by Doug Wright. Recent staged readings include: REPORTING LIVE at NYMF starring Kate Shindle, Alex Brightman, and Theresa McCarthy & KIND SOULS, a new play by Pulitzer Prize-nominee Tom Diggs.

Alexander is currently Associate Director to Tony-winning director, Doug Hughes (DOUBT). Hughes has called Alex: "A prodigy; a great thinker with great heart who is wonderfully capable of translating bold ideas into richly entertaining and memorable theater." For over three years, Alex has worked extensively on Broadway and overseas with such actors as Bobby Cannavale, Boyd Gaines, Richard Thomas, Rosemary Harris, Jim Dale, Cherry Jones, Sally Hawkins, Denis O’Hare, Brendan Fraser, Jim Belushi, Nina Arianda, and Robert Sean Leonard. Broadway credits include: THE BIG KNIFE, AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, THE ROAD TO MECCA (dir. Gordon Edelstein), BORN YESTERDAY, ELLING, & MRS. WARREN’S PROFESSION. Other Assistant Directing credits include: GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS at the renowned Gate Theatre in Dublin, Ireland and the recent Off-Broadway production of MY NAME IS ASHER LEV.

Alexander has directed at the Seven Devils Playwriting Conference and has conducted drama therapy workshops for teenagers in crisis at Cedar Ridge Academy in Roosevelt, UT. In 2007, he was appointed as an Artistic Associate at 7 Stages Theatre in Atlanta, GA. At 7 Stages he worked alongside current Artistic Director, Heidi Howard, to create the devised theatre training program: Absolute STEP and was a core collaborator on the resulting workshop of THE BANANA RAPTURE OF 2012.

Alexander holds a B.F.A. with honors in Theatre from NYU: Tisch School of the Arts and is a proud member of SDC, the theatrical labor union for professional stage Directors and Choreographers.

Atlanta Music Theatre Festival Returns For 2019


Founder and Executive Artistic Director Benjamin Taylor Davis announces today that submissions for the Fourth Annual Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF), to be held in the summer in Atlanta, are officially open. The deadline to submit new works is February 1, 2019. Selections will be announced in April 2019, at the annual selections announcement event (details forthcoming).

WOMEN IN JEOPARDY! at Merrimack Repertory Theatre


Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) continues its 2016-17 Season with the absolutely off-the-wall "Women in Jeopardy!". The riotous comedy follows Mary and Jo, two middle-aged women who jump to the rescue when their best friend Liz falls for a creepy (and potentially murderous) dentist. MRT Artistic Director Sean Daniels, who helmed the 2015 world premiere at Geva Theatre Center in Rochester, NY, returns to direct.

Suspense on Stage this Fall, as MRT Presents ABIGAIL/1702


This fall Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) presents the regional premiere of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's 'Abigail/1702', the haunting play that asks what might have happened ten years after the Salem witch trials. At the center of the story is Abigail Williams, the young accuser of 1692's Salem Village, as she tries to begin a new life after the hysteria has subsided-yet remains haunted at every turn by terrors of the past. Tlaloc Rivas directs.

Dynamic writer Amy Herzog uses her own feisty grandmother's experiences and stories to shape the character of elderly Vera in this altogether sensitive and comical story. Audiences are invited to take a trip to New York City's Greenwich Village and experience the implausible, yet beautiful relationship of two characters, as they embark on a journey to find their place in today's world.

KIND SOULS Begins Next Month at Theatre 54


This winter, Alexander Greenfield - Associate Director of the acclaimed Broadway production of Outside Mullingar and The City of Conversation at Lincoln Center - directs Libra Theater Company's production of Tom Diggs' new play KIND SOULS, performing January 16 - February 1 at Theatre 54. The cast includes Lindsey Kyler (The Seagull at New York Classical Theatre) and John Clarence Stewart (Choir Boy at Manhattan Theatre Club / The Alliance Theatre). Opening is slated for January 18.

CLYDE 'N BONNIE Leads in 2012 Suzi Bass Awards Nominations!


The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. announced nominations for the 2011-2012 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening to an enthusiastic crowd of patrons and theatre industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party, which rotates venues, was hosted this year by the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, GA. The spacious lobby allowed guests to enjoy drinks, hors d'ouevres and the chance to congratulate their colleagues. Guest announcers, Atlanta's own funny men Bryan Brendle, Bart Hansard, Tony Larkin, Aurora Theatre artistic director Tony Rodriguez and Scott Warren shared the list of nominees while playfully riffing on the 2011/2012 Atlanta theatre season.
