Hudson Classical Theater Company continues its 19th season with a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma.  Unlike their previous Jane Austen adaptations, this one takes place in the 1950’s in Newport, Rhode Island.  

It's a funny thing when a piece transcends its given medium and becomes ingrained in pop culture. People who have never seen a certain play/read the book/watched the movie find themselves familiar enough with the plot or the characters without ever really experiencing the piece in its entirety. For me, this has been the case for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST a story that was first told via the acclaimed novel by Ken Kesey, then the adaptation for the stage by Dale Wasserman, then the Academy Award winning film by Milos Forman. I had some familiarity with the plot and characters, but somehow, I was never exposed to it completely, and so it was with a fairly blank slate (those pop culture staples notwithstanding) that I approached Playhouse on Park's latest production.

Frankenstein: A New Musical is based on Mary Shelley's classic novel, which just celebrated its two-hundredth anniversary this past January.

'A Night at the Plaza' a new musical comedy with book by Ward Morehouse III and music and lyrics by David Romeo, will receive a reading at New York's Players Club tonight, Tuesday, May 16 at 7:00 PM. It is a closed reading.

59E59 Theaters will welcome Godlight Theatre Company with the world premiere of James Dickey's DELIVERANCE, based on his acclaimed novel, adapted by Sean Tyler, directed by Joe Tantalo. The Gallery Players has announced cast and crew for the first New York City revival ofA Man of No Importance. The Gallery Players has reunited the creative team of last season's 4-time NYIT Award winning revival of The Drowsy Chaperone for their first production of 2012. Directed by Hans Freidrichs and produced by Robert Earle Jones, A Man of No Importance opens at The Gallery Players Saturday January 28.
