Grab your candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup! Buddy the Elf is coming to New Orleans and he's bringing all of his friends and family with him! ELF THE MUSICAL, based off of the beloved Christmas movie Elf starring Will Ferrell, has been turned into a musical and it's headed to the Big Easy this week. ELF tells the story of Buddy, a human baby who sneaks into Santa's sack one night and is raised by the elves at the North Pole. When it becomes obvious to Buddy that he doesn't belong, Santa decides it's time for Buddy to journey to New York City to find his biological father, Walter Hobbs, and to get to know his family. Hilarity and Christmas cheer ensues, of course.

It's amazing how many Hollywood comedies, cult and otherwise, have been turned into musicals, some successfully, some not so much. Which brings us to ELF, freely adapted from the amusing Will Ferrell vehicle of the same name, but lacking his particular comedic talents. That's not to say there isn't an audience for this show. Packed houses with families in tow seem to be eating up the playful nature of this holiday fare, and it's understandable. I brought my son along and he had a jolly good time as well.

NETworks Presentations, LLC, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Unique Features bring the Broadway musical ELF to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami- Dade County from December 31 to January 5, 2014. To celebrate the arrival of ELF (and 2014), snow will rain down into the Center's Ziff Ballet Opera House lobby during intermission on opening night, December 31. Elf the Musical is bringing the Christmas spirit to the Detroit Opera House until December 15th and is a fun time for the whole family. The entire production delights from beginning to end as it tells the story of Buddy, the orphaned human child who is brought up by Santa and his elves only to discover his real family is living in New York City without Christmas spirit.

Students from Lawrence Academy of Music will have a chance to appear alongside Broadway performers in Elf the Musical at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center today, November 13-18. The young performers between the ages of 5 and 12 will include Nora Austin, Pippa Austin, Gavin Burkheimer, Eleanora Dane, Izzy Dane, Roseanna Dane, Nathaniel James, August McLaughlin, Sylvia Polansky, Will Scheffler, Maura Tarnowski and Annika Urness.
