Delta David Gier, distinguished conductor, is the recipient of the 2022 Ditson Conductor's Award for the advancement of American music, Columbia University has announced. Gier will receive $5,000 and a citation on behalf of Columbia's President Lee C. Bollinger. Previous recipients include Gustav Meier, David Zinman, Alan Gilbert, George Manahan, Leonard Bernstein, Marin Alsop, Oliver Knussen, and John Adams.
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has named Tong Chen its assistant conductor for the 2021–22 season. Chen will make her subscription series debut with performances of Jessie Montgomery's Starburst on a November classical program. She will share the podium with Music Director Xian Zhang for the Orchestra's annual Lunar New Year Celebration in January.
Effective immediately, The Cleveland Orchestra has announced the promotion of Vinay Parameswaran to the position of Associate Conductor and the extension of his contracts. The agreement continues Mr. Parameswaran's tenure with the Orchestra through the 2021-22 season.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announces the promotion of Assistant Conductor Paolo Bortolameolli to Associate Conductor of the LA Phil for a one-year term, extending his current contract through the 201920 season. His new title becomes effective this summer.

The Cleveland Orchestra has announced an extension of Assistant Conductor Vinay Parameswaran's contracts. The agreement continues Parameswaran's tenure with the Orchestra for two years through the 2020-21 season. He will continue to hold the Elizabeth Ring and William Gwinn Mather Assistant Conductor Endowed Chair. A concurrent agreement extends Parameswaran's role as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra through the same period.
Internationally-acclaimed violinist Tai Murray joins Michael Repper and the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra in their 56th season McCrindle Concert at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2PM in a performance of Korngold's Violin Concerto. Ms. Murray is a former BBC young generation artist, member of the Marlboro Festival and of Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society, and has previously performed with orchestras such as Chicago Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and BBC Symphony Orchestra. The New York Youth Symphony's March 10th program will also include Dvo k's New World Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Coleridge-Taylor's Ballade in A minor, and the world premiere of First Music commission Electric Agitation Fanfare by Theo Chandler.

The program features guitarist Jiji performing the world premiere of light, beloved, a landmark electric and classical guitar concerto composed by First Music award winner Natalie Dietterich. The piece is the first guitar concerto by a woman composer to be performed in Stern Auditorium, Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, marking the 35th Anniversary of the NYYS First Music commissioning program. The performance further exemplifies the NYYS mission to diversify the music community by creating unique opportunities for young musicians.
