Steppenwolf Education welcomes the Young Adult Council Class of 2018-19. Now in its twelfth year, the Young Adult Council was started out of a need for a professional training program for young people in all aspects of theater, beyond just acting on stage.

Gatorade Honors High School Coaches With 2018 Gatorade Coaching Excellence Award


As athletes and coaches prepare to take the stage during sports' biggest awards week, Gatorade honors two high school coaches - Wendell Phillips Academy's Troy McAllister and Dillard's Marcia Pinder - with the 2018 Gatorade Coaching Excellence Award. On July 17, McAllister and Pinder, along with the 2018 Gatorade Athlete of the Year nominees, will be honored at the Athlete of the Year Dinner in Los Angeles, California. In addition to this, they will all walk the red carpet at the 2018 ESPYS with some of the most iconic figures in sports.

CPS Students Nia Safro And Chisom Chima To Represent Chicago At The National August Wilson Monologue Competition


The League of Chicago Theatres, Goodman Theatre, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Broadway In Chicago and competition organizer Derrick Sanders announce the three Chicago finalists for the 9th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition: Nia Safro from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (first place, performed Molly, Joe Turner's Come and Gone); Chisom Chima from Nicholas Senn High School (second place; performed King, King Hedley II); and Evan Simpson from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (third place, performed Youngblood, Jitney). The top three Chicago finalists were awarded scholarships in the amount of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. The top two winning students will receive expenses paid to travel to New York City for the National Finals, where they will compete on May 7, 2018.

Chicago High School Students to Compete in August Wilson Monologue Competition


Twenty-one Chicago high school students will once again compete in the finals of the August Wilson Monologue Competition for a chance to represent Chicago in the National Competition at the August Wilson Theatre in New York City. Hundreds of students competed across the city in preliminary rounds. The finals will be held at the Broadway Playhouse, 175 E Chestnut on February 26, 2018 at 6:00pm. The August Wilson Monologue Competition is free and open to the public. The top two winners of the Chicago finals will compete in the National Finals at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre in New York on May 7, 2018.

Court Theatre Presents 11th Annual South Side Performance Fest


Court Theatre proudly presents the 11th Annual Exelon South Side Youth Performance Fest, featuring the dramatic and design work of area students. The Exelon South Side Youth Performance Fest will be presented Tuesday, January 23, 2018, beginning with a scenic design exhibition in Court's lobby at 6:15 p.m., followed by student performances at 6:30 p.m. The annual celebration will take place at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave, and is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. with a reception immediately following the performance.
