The Keegan Theatre has announced the new works and writers to be featured in the 2023 Boiler Room Series. The initiative invites audiences to experience theater development in action while supporting playwrights and their works in progress, which lie somewhere on the path from “playwright’s first spark” to “mainstage production.”

The Keegan Theatre has announced the 2022 Boiler Room Series (BRS), a series of presentations and events that take audiences into the world where new plays get made.

I really wanted to like "Lincolnesque." But, although it is presented well, the show struggles on a number of fronts and never quite reaches the heights of its aspirations.

In 1st Stage's production of Broadway Bound, the cast breathes life into the Jerome family, so much so, that one feels as if they are watching their own family bicker on stage.

While coping with their parents' crumbling marriage, the boys pursue their dream of becoming famous comedy writers by drawing from their surroundings to create a sketch about family antics. When their material is broadcast on the radio for the first time, their family is upset to hear a thinly-veiled portrait of themselves played for laughs...and they are not alone. This warm, gently humorous play is a welcome treat for the Holidays.

A play about power, ambition, political secrets, ruthlessness and the race for the presidency, Vidal's The Best Man is set at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party's nomination during the primary season. It's an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering. Filled with Vidal's trademark verbal fire, this darkly satirical drama resonates today as an exploration of how political and personal agendas can change the destiny of a nation.

Even though 'Cabaret' is of the 'tried and true' variety of musical theatre and could have, therefore, resulted in yet another ho-hum production, Keegan's intimate setting, attention to detail, and mostly strong casting among the leads make this production ultimately memorable and, at times, even a bit daring.

Letts' jaw-dropping masterpiece opens on Friday, August 3 and runs through September 2, 2012, at the company's home on Church Street in Dupont Circle. Curtain is 7:30 pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday evenings, with 3pm Sunday matinees.
